what is age appropriate for this item?
getting my 6 year old one for xmas, but my 4 year old wants one as well. I assume there are games for all ages, but it's so expensive I"m afraid he'll drop it and break it or something. I plan to get the nerf cover for it so that should help, but...

I was wondering the same thing. I have a 6 and a 4 year old boy. I Know that if I get my 6 year old one, my 4 year old will want one also. However, I started to think about how my youngest has cared for his other handheld games like his v tech and leapster. He has dropped them, slammed them because he couldn't get the game in the right way, etc... I have decided to get my youngest a leapster pad instead. I feel it's more age appropriate and slightly cheaper! Hope that helps!
I bought a DSi XL for my oldest son on his 6th birthday last year. His brother is a year 2 years younger than him. A few weeks ago my youngest jammed the game cartridge in the system backwards and warranty does not cover this damage. All I could get was a discount because the system is still under a year old. It is expensive. Furthermore, my 3 yr old is a couple months away from 4, and every time he gets his hands on the Wii or my DS Lite he gets frustrated because he does not understand how to use it. He throws them. I would not purchase one for a child under 5.
i say go for it! my 3 year old has a ds lite and is able to work it on her on..the screen is clear! my stepdaughter is 5 in a half and has a dsi but it has too many options for a 3 year old.i guess it also depends on the kids bc my step daughter plays alot with the camera on her dsi so its perfect for her but my 3 year old is interested in actually playing the games not so much taking pictures and stuff like that. but these really are great to have on the road.
