Looking for Answers about Shell Rotella Shell Rotella Synthetic 5W-40 Motor Oil, 1 Gal?

For which application-motorcycle, car, etc.. I change every 3-4k on my bike because an engineer friend of mine and motorcycle rider believes that the engine is harder on bikes than cars...so we must change the oil sooner than we would versus a car. If I put this stuff in a car, I would change the soonest every 7.5k. At 4k my motorcycle oil is dark. If you want to keep your stuff at least 7 years, what's really the cost over the long run....

With full Synthetic you can go between 4000 to 5000 miles between changes

Shell oil specifically recommends the use of this oil in place of a 15W-40. The only advantage a 15W-40 would have over Rotella T-6 5W-40 would be price. In cold weather, the T-6 would be much easier starting.

Yes! I just put this in my CBR and it's just fine.

"40" is the actual weight which will work.

"5w" just means it will start in colder weather than "15w"

I contacted Shell on this oil.

Dear Sir,

While the synthetic Rotella 5w-40 does have an API SM rating for
gasoline engines, it does not meet ILSAC GF-4/5 specifications and is
not recommended for vehicles with catalytic converters.

The diesel compounds will plug catalytic converter according to mobile.

It is perfectly acceptable in 4 cylinder gasoline engines. Although it does not meet VW certification for the use in Volkswagens, I have several friends that use it in their 1.8T VW/Audi motors with great sucess and no signs of sludge. I have used it for years in my Volvo, BMW 4,6,8 cylinder motors.
