We put a thin waterproof cover over it, then our regular sheet and have no problems. I can't imagine it would cause itching unless you sleep directly on it. Not covering it with at least a sheet would cause it to get worn out sooner as well.

Question

Would this cover be good to use on a pull out couch mattress, where you can feel the bars?

My aunt had a pull out I used to sleep on when I took care of her and we tried everything to get rid of the bar feeling. We finally just came up with some giant cardboard pieces cut to fit as a base and then we bought a decent mattress and it was great! No more bad back from the bars.

answer 4
Depends on how poor the original mattress is, but I bought the Full size topper for my sofa bed and it has reduced the 'feeling bars' problem. When the sofa bed is not in use for periods of time I remove the topper and store it elsewhere because the folding mechanism of the sofabed causes creases in the same spot where the bars are.

answer 5
No. You really need a saggy-sofa board, or something made with Foam. In fact, you could go to a fabric store and have them cut the size you need. Use a really sturdy foam though. That will cut back on the metal bar nuisance. Then, you could put the topper on the mattress. I would anyway, as those mattresses are really thin and wiry to begin with, no matter how good the base is. I've owned several sleeper sofas.

answer 6
It will definitely cover this up, but after about a year, the stuffing goes flat. Plus, you could not fold it up with the bed, or the fluffing in the pad would go flat. Also, depending on what size mattress you have in the couch, these toppers are not as long as they appear number-wise. I bought a queen size for my twin mattress, and the queen is still about 3 inches shorter than the twin mattress.

Not if you can feel the bars. You'll need to buy a new mattress. But, it does give the pull out mattress a softness.

I would suggest a different product if you're wanting this to ease the feel of bars within a sleeper sofa.

There is a product available from Improvements Catalog called a Sofa Bed Bar Shield that sells for less than $20. This should do the trick for you.

Softness is pretty subjective, there's no way to tell you if this topper is "too soft" for your tastes or not. I can tell you that it IS very soft and cushy and pillowy (which is what I needed). It's not hot to sleep on, though. I can't stand memory foam, this topper is NOT memory foam.

Absolutely! That is the main reason I purchased this product. During summer, my memory foam mattress is just way to hot. This topper makes it cooler and more comfortable. I think it will also help in the winter with the way it wraps around you for a soft sleep. It will not make the memory foam mattress firmer.

We purchased ours a while ago, but it was pretty poofy...I'd say about 3", maybe closer to 4" thick. There is no way to strap it onto mattress, but we put a sheet cover over it which seems to hold it in place pretty good. We sleep so well now, it's amazing, what a difference, very comfortable! You need to fluff this topper like a regular feather bed every few days so it keeps its fullness. Check eHow or YouTube for "How to fluff a feather bed" instructions. I've had it for 3 months now and it's still wonderfully comfortable as long as I fluff it once or twice a week.

I agree. It will flatten out in about a year, which is frustrating, because when it was not flat, it sure was wonderful to sleep on!!!!!!! I still have it and put other things on top of it to get that softness. Also, you have to surface clean it. It does not appear to be able to go through the washing machine without losing its wonderful fluff and softness.

my topper went flat and lifeless in a matter of a month-- it said not to launder but i figured i had nothing to lose so i washed it ''gentle'' in a commercial tumble washer for the least stress and it was a lumpy mess. drying didn't help and it was just wads of fiber in the baffles so it went from washer to dryer to dumpster. i figured the extra care may fluff it up --but --not!! money down the drain.
