what is the differance between led and lcd?

answer 1
They are the same (both are LCD) but the difference is in how the screen is "backlighted". A standard LCD usually uses 1 or 2 bulbs to shine light from under or above the screen and the light diffuses across the front of the panel. LED's actually light the screen from behind the screen and are considered better to have for movie watching as they have better dark screens (dark or black areas look more realistic)...

answer 2
Light emitting diode vs. liquid chrystal display. LED will have much deeper 'blacks' and less influence from bright light. LED hands down better picture but, LCD much more affordable, for now!

answer 3
LCD TVs and LED TVs are technically both LCD TVs, and the screen on both LCD and LED TVs is a liquid crystal display, a LCD display has two layers of glass which are polarized and joined together, the liquid crystals then pass or block the light to display the television picture.

The main difference is the thickness of the screen. LED is much thinner.

answer 4
The first difference is the price. Currently LED televisions are about 50% more than an LCD tv. An LED tv uses light emitting diodes ad its source of light for the television. An LED tv uses these diodes to create a much more vibrant and colorful image. The blacks are truly black (not dark gray) and the colors are more realistic vs an LCD tv.
The second major difference between LED and LCD televisions is the environmental effect. LCD televisions use mercury in the manufacturing process versus the LED tv which does not! Mercury is very bad for the environment. An LED hdtv will also use about 40% LESS power than the same size LCD tv. Power usage is the dark secret of all the new line of HDTVs. An LCD or plasma television cost between $10-15 per month to operate.
The thickness and therefore the weight is the last major difference of LED vs LCD tvs. LED televisions are about one third the thickness of the same size LCD tv. Correspondingly, the weight is about half.

Use the programming on the TV to pick up available channels on your cable. Then the TV remote will control the cable box.

answer 3
Always leave the power ON for the cable box. When you use the remote's power button, it's turning the tv on and the box off. So hit the TV button first (not the STB or CABLE button), then hit the power button. This will only turn the TV on while leaving the cable box on.
