Question

Can the top shelf be removed/not installed?

I was wondering if this desk can be assembled without including the top shelf? If YES, would it leave the unit less sturdy? AND, if yes, could the second shelf below it hold a small flat screen TV (approx. 22")? Would appreciate any input. Thanks.

THE TOP SHELF COULD BE LEFT OFF ALTHOUGH IT WOULD LEAVE THE DESK A LITTLE LESS STURDY/ THERE ARE 2 THIN PIECES OF TIN THAT GO ON THE SIDES AT THE TOP THAT WOULD HELP WITH THE STURDYNESS BUT I WOULD SAY THE TOP SHELF IS A MUST TO FULLY STRENGTHEN THE UNIT FOR PIECE OF MIND

I think it could still be sturdy without the top shelf, the width is about 27-28 inches so a flat screen 22 should fit

answer 5
Yes you could leave the top shelf off. It would be a little less sturdy and the screw holes would show. It would probably hold a small TV. It would be about 28 inches across.

answer 6
For safety reasons as well as to keep the integrity of the unit, Sauder does not suggest altering the unit. Making alterations to the unit will void the warranty. This unit is not intended to accommodate a TV.

The shelves are not real wood, but they're composed of a very solid particle board and covered with an attractive cherry wood veneer. The top surfaces are coated with a special protective coating that adds texture and durability.

Question

How deep are the upper shelves, and how wide is the keyboard tray?

* I'd like to put a printer on the 2nd shelf, but it's a scan/print/copy unit and has a somewhat large footprint. How wide/deep are the two top shelves from front to back?

* Also, how wide (side to side) is the keyboard tray? It looks quite large in the picture... I'm hoping to accommodate a standard-sized keyboard, a small mousepad and a gaming keypad.

key board tray is 31.25" wide X 11.25 wide
shelve over the desk top is 9.5" at the back an 36" at the front
top shelve is 9.5' x 36'
measuring at the center of the shelves from the front edge to the style the shelves is 14" deep so thats 4.25" at either side of center then the unit starts its forward taper because of it wedge shape

I also have an all in one printer and it fits. there are corners on the back that could prevent it from fitting good if your printer is to deep.My printer is 11"X18"and it just fits if you are longer or wider it will not fit.the keyboard tray is 31 1/2 X 11 1/2.

answer 4
The upper shelves are deep in the center, but shallow out to the sides. It's a corner desk. An all-in-one printer with a large footprint won't fit. You should consider placing the printer on the larger shelf underneath or placing it elsewhere.

The keyboard drawer should be wide enough to accommodate the three peripherals you mentioned with no problem.

answer 5
The keyboard tray is about 31&1/2 inches long. The 2 top shelves are about 33" long in the front and 14" deep in the middle. My printer is 17 inches long and 13&1/2 inches deep, and it just fits on the shelf.

you should be able to accommodate all of those things. The pull out is quite wide, but does not pull out very far, although, I have one of those ergonomic keyboards, which is pretty large and it does just fine. I rigged some wire in the sliding rails so as to keep it from sliding in, but that's just me. I like it very secure, but yes, you can do all that.

No but there is plenty of space in the back that will be in the corner as the wood only runs a strip up the center. The rest of the back is completely open, plenty of room for wires.
