No filter required. It is an ultrasonic mister. Since all misters have their pluses and minuses; the pros of this item is that it is exceptionally easy to clean, requires no filter, and is virtually silent (just some slight splashing water, but no spinning fan or motor), the con is that it is a vibrating disc that can break (I've had one for two years and it hasn't broken yet).

There is a small green light that appears on the unit when it is on. It turns red when it has run out of water (I think the unit has auto shut off). The humidifier is across the room from my bed, but I've never noticed it emitting a strong light. I don't think it would keep anyone up it's just a slight indicator light. You cannot shut it off when the humidifier is in operation.

Yes,there is a small red light (like a small light on extension cord). It will come on as soon as u start using it.It has auto shut off feature,so it will turn off as soon as humidifier turn off automatically (due to no water) or if you turn it off manually.

When it's on, there is a green light that illuminates on the front. If it stops feeding water into the reservoir, the light turns red, and the unit stops. It has an on/off switch on the back, so yes, it can be shut off.

This is not a STEAM mist humidifier, it is a cool mist unit. Since this unit uses ultrasonic sound to vaporize the water into micro-droplet clouds, the mist comes out cool. Units that use heat to create steam can cause severe burns if not used properly. The voltage is standard UL listed at 110-117 volts.

I use a bottle brush to give the inside of the water vessel part a quick scrub each time I refill it. So ease of cleaning is SUPER EASY. I haven't actually seen any reason for the scrubbing yet. It doesn't show any signs of mold, mildew, mineral deposits, etc. I scrub it just out of paranoia and maintenance. I also think that the size of the vaporized water particles coming out are smaller than mold spores, and would not easily carry these sorts of allergens unless it clumped around the allergens already in the air outside of the unit.

If you're allergic to mold you will need to clean the whole unit at least every two days to keep it mold free. It is easy to clean everything comes apart and there are no unreachable areas. The tank is trickier but it says to use a vinegar solution daily to keep it mold and residue free.

I use it in the Kitchen on the counter and to be honest don't notice it being noisy at all. Maybe like a mild white noise which would be good for someone who has a hard time getting and staying asleep.
