Your TV is a HD unit so it likely has all the plugs necessary to connect this unit including an HDMI connection. I don't know what that other unit is but if it's a DVR, or for all that matters, any other unit such as a blue ray, you can connect the DVR, the DVD recorder and the TV in series, in that order. Your TV likely has several inputs for each machine to be pluged in separately so it can be used without turning all theother units on. Go to your TV input menu and/or look on the back or side iof your tv to see them.
What this machine DOES NOT have is a coaxial cable connection. Use the 3 RCA plugs to connect the cable/satilite box to this unit. Also connect your "box" directly to the tv with a coaxial cable or HDMI cable if your box has a HDMI output so you can see "box" transmissions without having this or anyother machine turned on.
Just a FYI, in my experience, HDMI cables will not support closed caption transmisions from any unit, if that's a concern, but they are much clearer.
Have fun!

I am not sure how the Dish delivers but this machine will not record though the internet i.e. Netflix, HBO Go. It can't intercept the signal. I guess you would just have to try it.

Yes, it will record your TV shows. All you need to do is run the audio/video cable from your satellite box to the recorder.

Be aware that some programs or channels can have copy protection embedded in the signal, preventing recording.

I use both DVDR and have just switched to DVRW. You can NOT recover space on the DVDR if you erase a title so it seems less. I usually get about 4 hours on both if I don't erase.

Recording time on a disc is up to 8 hours, depending on the disc and recording mode you select. See the attached image for details.

Digital/Analog Box

I have right now a SONY RDRVX521 DVR/VCR combo and for me to record live televison it needs to use an external digital/Analog converter box which really deters the performance of my Terk Antenna. Does this machine have the built in tuner for live tv recording?

Yes it does. If you change the input to the DVD the tv does play through it, although the image is less than HD. All you have to do to record is press the record button and it records. To play what is on the disk you must change the format.

The DR430 doesn't have a tuner, but Toshiba makes the DR570, which does have tuners.

You need to use the RCA cables that connect the TV to the machine. See the drawing in the box.

If you're recording any channels at all, you have the connections set up correctly.

I suspect the problem you're having recording specific channels is the result of copy protection. If they choose, content owners can copy protect their programs to prevent copies from being made. Usually you'll find this on premium channels, but any program can potentially be copy protected.

Question

Can I transfer programs recorded on VHS that were copy guarded to this DVD recorder?

I have an older Sony VCR/DVD recorder that will record any program on the VHS tape yet the DVD's will often not record the same program and when the DVD does not record because of some copy guard the bland DVD is ruined and cannot be used for another recording. Why can I record on tape but not on DVD and could I record on tape and transfer a copy guard tape to DVD on this unit?
I also have an older JVC VHS pseudo S-Vhs recorder that makes copies close to 425 lines of resolution called an VHS-E recorder. Can I transfer tapes of this pseudo S-VHS format to this DVD recorder?

You cannot record video content with copy-guard, or any other copy protection. Even if you were able to copy copy-protected content to a tape, you still can't record to the DVD as the copy protection is embedded in the video stream.

The DR 430 has both Composite Video and S-Video input, so as long as the non copy protected recordings were recorded in the NTSC format, you can make copies.

You can program the unit to record up to 12 programs within a month in advance. Daily or weekly program recordings are also available.

Keep in mind that this recorder does not have a tuner, so in order to record that program at 8:00 Friday, you'll have to have your cable or satellite box turned on and tuned to the channel you want to record.

Question

Why can I record a copy protected program on VHS but not on a DVD?

I have several VHS recorders, Sony, Toshiba and JVC-VHS-ET psuedo S-VHS video tape recorders that I can use to make a copy of anything off the broadcast airwaves or from cable ie sports movies anything. I also have an older DVD recorder that if it trys to record any copy protected material it pops the DVD out after trying to record the protected program and a message is displayed that the DVD can now not be used to record or view any material. In effect the disc is now unusable. Does the Toshiba DVD recorders do the same thing ie DVR 620 or the DVR 430 so the disc is not usable or can it again be used for another program to record on? Is there any way to tell before I try to DVD a program if it is copy protected instead of either wasting discs or not even being able to record the program that I thought I was going to be able to record? VHS records anything and DVD's don't and on top of that the DVD disc is ruined. What happens to the disc with the Toshiba recorders, can the disc be reused later if copy guard blocks the recording?
