No, this recorder doesn't have a microphone input. In order to do what you are wanting to do you would need a microphone mixer to connect to the recorder, then you would plug your mic into the mixer.

Can you set the DVD to start record at a certain time? Say for instance, I want to record a show on Friday @ 8pm; can I set it a day or week in advance to start recording?

You can program the unit to record up to 12 programs within a month in advance. Daily or weekly program recordings are also available.

Keep in mind that this recorder does not have a tuner, so in order to record that program at 8:00 Friday, you'll have to have your cable or satellite box turned on and tuned to the channel you want to record.

Question

Why can I record a copy protected program on VHS but not on a DVD?

I have several VHS recorders, Sony, Toshiba and JVC-VHS-ET psuedo S-VHS video tape recorders that I can use to make a copy of anything off the broadcast airwaves or from cable ie sports movies anything. I also have an older DVD recorder that if it trys to record any copy protected material it pops the DVD out after trying to record the protected program and a message is displayed that the DVD can now not be used to record or view any material. In effect the disc is now unusable. Does the Toshiba DVD recorders do the same thing ie DVR 620 or the DVR 430 so the disc is not usable or can it again be used for another program to record on? Is there any way to tell before I try to DVD a program if it is copy protected instead of either wasting discs or not even being able to record the program that I thought I was going to be able to record? VHS records anything and DVD's don't and on top of that the DVD disc is ruined. What happens to the disc with the Toshiba recorders, can the disc be reused later if copy guard blocks the recording?

Yes, as long as they are not copywrite protected. For the most part, only VHS tapes sold close to the time they went away are protected. I have recorded many store bought VHS tapes to dvd. Any homemade VHS will record no problem. Connect VCR to DVD recorder. DVD recorder to TV.

Yes!
Hook up the units in series.
Also, connect each unit to your TV separately to view that machine without turning on all the machines.
Hope it helps!

answer 2
Yes, as long as the source dvd is not copywrite protected. FYI, each time you stop the recording to edit out something, the recorder will create a seperate segment of video on the recorded disc. If you leave the recorder running as you fast forward or whatever looking for the next video you want to record, the recorder will capture the fast forward also. You would want to stop the recorder while you find the next video to capture on disc. You can individually name video segments on the recorded disc. Be sure to finalize the recorded disc when finished so the recorded dvd will play on other dvd players.

Question

What CPRM Discs can I buy?

To record most things from cable it requires DVD-RW CPRM-compatible discs. I cannot find them _ANYWHERE_ online except in Japan, and they won't ship to USA.
What are some brands and model numbers of blank discs that are CPRM compatible?

I used DVD-RW and they work fine. They are are available on line from many places with no trouble. I purchased from Nuwegg.com but I bet you can find them on the Walmart site too. Nothing special they don't even have to be rewrite if you don't want. Something to be aware of though, with this and other Toshiba recorders I have found they delete the title but the not the space, so you never get it back.
Be sure you have connected properly too.

Yes, if you want it to. You can "delete titles" individually that were previously recorded or you can completely format the disk again & that will wipe the entire disk clean.

You can manually re-format DVD-RW and DVD+RW discs to allow you to re-use them.

This unit may not be able to reformat a disc that is not previously formatted by this unit e.g. DVD disc
formatted by PC or another recorder.

Try hooking your VCR directly to the DVD recorder. I haven't done it but my GEEK friend says that is the way to go.

You need to check your connections, because you can't record "through the TV". TVs don't have video outputs.

While there are many different ways to hook up to record your VHS tapes depending on the equipment you have, let me make a suggestion. The included audio/video cables are the only cables you need.

If you have your VCR attached to your TV through the RF connection (the threaded cable-TV type connection) just leave that as is. From your VCR connect from the audio and video outputs (Yellow, White, Red connectors) to the corresponding inputs on the recorder using the included cable. See page 26 of the owner's manual for directions to select the proper video input. You want to select "Video In".

Put your tape in the VCR and blank DVD in the recorder. Press Record on the recorder and play on your VCR.That's it.

Be aware that many commercial VHS tapes have copy protection in the video that prevents copies from being made.
