Questions & Answers for Eureka Eureka Endeavor Bagless Upright Vacuum, 5400A

Question

What can be done about the screeching sound when the vacuum is turned on?

I just bought the Eureka Endeavor NLS 5400A. It makes a screeching sound when the vacuum is turned on. Has anyone else had this problem? Can anything be done about it? Or do I need to take it back to Walmart? Thanks.

This happened to me after first use. I bought it about 3 months ago. My husband thought it was the wheels being new just needed to be used a few times. I knew I should have just hauled it down 3 flights of stairs myself. It still does it! Can't stand to vacuum! Hoping something still can be done. I think I still have receipt even though its past the 90 days. Help!

I work for Eureka® and would like for you to contact our customer assistance helpline at 1-888-274-3691. It sounds like a belt issue, but our customer service representative will be better able to properly diagnose the cause over the telephone and take corrective action.

It sounds like the roller is sticking, causing the belt to slip.
Take the cover off the bottom and see if it rolls easy. Check for string/thread jamming it.

There could be a clog in numerous parts of the vacuum in one of the hoses. Or you have it too low. Even on hard wood sometimes the second lowest setting helps. If it doesn't, it's because it's a vacuum and pushes out air as it sucks and little dirt even on a low setting probably be 100% sucked up. A lot of companies promise 100% suction of everything, but it just isn't always possibly. Sometime a broom is what gets the job done.

I work for Eureka, and the operating weight of the Endeavor NLS is 15 pounds. This is the weight of the vacuum only with the cord unwrapped, as it would be when using the vacuum.

Actual weight is how much the product weighs, shipping weight is how much the box, plastic bags, etc. weighs with the product.

Question

Spewing Dirt Back Into The Air

I have heard that when you disconnect and use an upright vacuum's hose and attachments that dirt spews into the air because the beater brush continues to rotate. If this is true does Eureka manufacture an upright that allows you to turn off the brush and if so how much does such a model run these days?

I work for Eureka® and the new SuctionSeal™ upright available exclusively at Walmart and on Walmart.com has an on/off brush roll. When the handle is in the upright position, where it should be when using the tools, the brush roll stops spinning automatically, plus this makes the cleaner function better on hard surface floors.

The hose on this unit is the same 'cleaning air path' as the floor suction. Disconnecting the house does not allow dirt to be thrown into the air. Also I notice when I so use the hose - I have it in the upright position - where the brush beater is far from the floor.

I work for Eureka, and the model 5400 Endeavor NLS™ uses a style Eureka U belt. These are available at Walmart stores in a two pack, because no matter if a belt breaks or not, it is important it be replaced every twelve months. Rubberized belts stretch with use and will begin to slip reducing the cleaning performance of the vacuum. This is not specific to the Endeavor NLS™, but any vacuum utilizing a rubberized belt. If you have further questions, please contact our call center at (888)274-3691.

I work for Eureka, and only recommend vacuums with an on/off brush roll for cleaning hardwood floors. While the Endeavor will pick up debris from hard surface floors, the rotating brush roll will scatter some debris before the suction has a chance to pick it up, especially sand and cat litter. Vacuums with on/off brush rolls allow you to stop the rotation so you do not have this issue. Also, Eureka vacuums with on/off brush rolls have soft touch wheels to protect the finish of hard surface floors.

Question

How does this handle long human hair?

I seem to lose a lot of my hair and find the very long strands wrap around the roller and get so locked in that other machines don't perform well.

answer 2
I work for Eureka, and the Endeavor will pick up long hair as well as short hair without losing suction. However, long human hair wraps around brush rollers of all vacuum cleaners and will need to be removed periodically to insure the vacuum continues to work properly and to prevent damage to the brush roller.
