If you look on amazon, there are alot of adapters you can purchase for the leap pad and wall chargers.

The best way to find out for sure is to go to the Leapster website. I do know that you can buy a wall plug. We have a portable converter that we can use in the car, so we plug the leap pad into the converter and the converter into the car. Voila!

Its not a wi-fi game. You only need the internet to download the apps you purchase online through your computer

answer 2
I don't know that the leap pad has any need for wi-fi in the same way that you would use an adult tablet (ie- iPad, Kindle Fire, etc). It is a video game console (think PSP) geared for smaller kids- it's got simple game controls and games that allow you to adjust the difficulty based on age. As the parent, you can connect the leap pad to a computer via USB to get firmware updates and monitor your child's progress. Additionally, the child earns "treats" and "badges" by playing so you can download extra gadgets for them based on their playing and success in doing so.

Question

What needs to be purchased seperately when the Leapfrog tablet is initially purchased?

The product description states "100+...", is this referring to items that can be purchased, or items included? If I were to purchase this, what else do I need to buy for it initially? In other words, does the product actually work just "as is" and additional items are just accessories, or do the additional items really need to accompany this product for it to be fully functional? Also, what items are actually a feature and not a separate accessory? The descriptions are vague, at best. Thank you for your assistance. Cheryl

Sure the toy comes with some preloaded apps, and the video/camera. Once you run the software install on your computer and sync the tablet, it will let you pick a free game. In addition if you websearch promo codes for the tablet, you will end up with 2 codes for free games. Hope this helps (Virtual pet comes free, my kids LOVE It!!!)

You don't really need to purchase additional items to start playing it from day one- except for 4 AA batteries. I bought rechargeable ones. I found that there are accessories to make your life easier, but they are not critical to game play. For example, there are cute little carrier bags, headphones, a plug, and even a gel cover.

I use it for four to seven year old. Look at the cartridges available to see if it meets her needs. What i do love is that the games start easy and get harder as they improve their math or reading skills.

It comes with three apps already that are pre-determined (Pet Pad, Art Studio, and Story Studio). You also get to choose one of 5 apps that are $7.50 (but I don't know what the five choices are).

Any other cartridge games or apps need to be purchased separately. The Leappad will work with games sold for the Leapster Explorer (but not the games for Leapster or Leapster 2).

answer 4
The stylus attaches to the right side only and is a very short string so it cannot be used by a lefty. The one not attached can of course be used by a lefty, but be prepared to search for it a lot. THe unit comes without one attached so after searching several times the first day for lost stylus, I hid that one and put on the one with the cord. I suppose you could make the cord longer so it could be used by a lefty, but it is not set up that way out of the package.
