Questions & Answers for Onn Onn Wireless Optical Mouse

Question

Why did it stop working?

I've been using this Onn wireless mouse model M730R for about a month, and it suddenly stopped working. I've ran troubleshooting, uninstalled and reinstalled the driver, changed the batteries, swapped USB ports.... even tried unceremoniously and repeatedly prodding the 'Connect' button, to no avail. HELP. (The tracking light is on, the mouse seems fine.)

Most likely the wireless transceiver has a dirty connection and is not connecting to your USB port correctly. Carefully clean it out with rubbing alcohol and the cylinder of a Q-tip (not the cotton end).

Get rid of it! Recommend Logitech mouse devices, and they may run longer at least 2 years without changing the batteries.

Question

Where can I find drivers for this device?

I just purchased this mouse, I plugged it in and windows can't find a driver for it. Searching Google and trying to find it on the manufacturer's webpage (which I can't find either), and on driver update sites have so far produced NO results!

I bought two of these, and two different operating systems (WinXP SP3 & Win7) both recognized it without any problems. It would be nice to have a driver so we could program the buttons.

There is no Driver for this mouse, sadly.

If you re-install it while connected to the Internet Windows will probably find and install a suitable driver. I did not need to install any driver on my Win-XP sp3 laptop.

My Windows 7 Operating System had no problem at all in installing a driver--I just plugged the USB connection in and it found a driver immediately. If you're using an older system, that MIGHT have something to do with it. It just worked fine for me with Windows 7. Sorry you're having problems with it.

ONN wireless devices do not play nice with other wireless devices, like Logitech wireless keyboards and mice.

If you are using a desktop, put the ONN transceiver in the front USB slots and the Logitech or Microsoft transceivers in the back of the computer. That keeps the signals from interfering.

Most likely ONN reverse engineered their technologies and they are similar enough to that of Logitech that there is cross interference.

$10 and $14 items normally do not have warranties. If it did, it would cost you more than that to mail the mouse oversees to be repaired under the warranty.

ONN is a wal-mart brand, like George (clothes) or Ozark Trail (camping equipment). I don't have my box or the pamphlet that came with mine...so i'm not sure, but if you keep the box, being a Wal-Mart brand, just return it, with or without receipt.

There is no documentation to show whether or not this mouse has an auto-sleep function. However, I leave my mouse on all the time, as it is a pain to turn off/on and the batteries are still going strong. Technically...being Radio Frequency, the biggest drain on the batteries would be from the blue LED light. The light is only on when being moved, so I wouldn't worry about the batteries much, i'm going on 1+ month, no problems. Also, buy batteries from dollar stores (you can find name brands sometimes like Sony etc.) I hope this helps :)

I bought this mouse because it had five buttons....I had assumed it would be customizable buttons, but the two thumb buttons are not customizable through the mouse's standard computer options. However, I downloaded and installed (took all of five seconds) this small, free utility:
http://www.highrez.co.uk/downloads/XMouseButtonControl.htm
which allowed me to customize the buttons anyway I like, plus one can create several "layer profiles" and to add even more options to this mouse. Took me less than a minute to customize and assign the two thumb buttons and it now works flawlessly.

You are not supposed to program the side buttons on the mouse. The buttons work with your internet browser.

The one in front is forward page, the one in back is backward page.

The driver is automatically installed by windows. The chipset on the mouse is universal.

You should not be manually installing any driver. Whatever drivers you are installing, they are not from ONN.

As you extend the range the accuracy diminishes. If you really want that kind of range you will need a more expensive mouse. Try it and see if it works for you. It's only $14.

The real range on this is 20 feet, however, it doesn't do very well at 20 feet, at 10 feet it begins to lose allot of it's sensing.

I would recommend using another USB port for the mini-usb receiver. Also, make sure mouse is "on" and try unplugging the usb 'dongle' (and re-plugging it back in) with your computer on. If neither one of those works, you probably have a faulty product.

Battery Life?

I bought the mouse and the batteries that came with the mouse ran for like 2 months then they died. I bought the same type of battery to replace it, except the mouse flashes red on the top of it, and the batteries die in like two days. whats wrong?

This depends on the type of strength of battery you obtain. It sounds like you might have used a cheapie brand of batteries, I found a package at Walmart for 88 cents and they don't do so good on electronics such as Wireless Mice.

Rechargeable AAA batteries seem to work better in mine than alkaline batteries. I have four rechargeable batteries, always keeping two on the charger. I usually swap batteries every weekend whether they need it or not. Never had any problems doing this.
