Manually pulling the lid open will not break it, unless they over-extend it. The lid will open even if you lightly flick it open, then you can either push the "close" button or manually close the lid.

I have experienced this, but it always shuts completely after hitting the close button again. I don't know if you are having this issue because of the same circumstance or if it just isn't working properly.

answer 7
I don't think it would seal in the odors very well. With the lid closed the odors from food are fairly well contained, but diaper odors I just don't think it could handle. Plus every time you open it you're going to get knocked out with diaper stink. If I scrape regular plates into it, or put any type of food in it, after a day or two the odors are very strong when we open the can to throw more things away. So I'd say No if you are looking for something that handles odor.

Yes. This has a filter in the unit (needs replacing every 3 months) and it keeps out a lot of odors. I wouldn't fill it up with cloth diapers till its almost over flowing, but I'm sure it will work fine for it.

As a garbage can it can be used to throw away cloth diapering, however if you are looking for the deodorizer to mask the smell I wouldn't count on it. On the other hand, I have a diaper genie and it smells just as bad, so it doesn't make much of a difference except in price.

Does the lid open slow?

It is a little slower than a foot pedal, but it's only a few seconds. There is an open button that will open the lid immediately & leave it open until you press the close key. I find the wait only annoying if my trash is wet. Like all new things, it takes a little getting used to, but for me it's worth it

There is about a 1 second delay when you place your hand in front of the sensor to when it actually opens. It doesn't bother me because it doesn't take noticeably longer than when I had to push a latch-button manually on our previous can. You get used to it.
