When used as supplemental heat in a room that is approximately 400 sqft or smaller, this stove can be an efficient and cost effective zone heating solution.

answer 3
These heaters are fan-forced heat, and they are the same wattage as many other portable heaters on the market today (up to 1500watts). If you leave it on all of the time, you will likely see an increase in your electric bill. I would use the heater only when needed. You can use the flame, alone, which will use much less wattage than if you run the heater component.

If it costs .25 cents an hr to run this heater, times by 168 hrs a week that would equal to about $42 a week. I think it would be expensive to use this for heat.

I saw this on QVC the other day. The Duraflame Rep said it costs about 25 cents a day to run this heater.

We have been thinking about getting one for our cool bedroom. Wal Mart has the best price.

answer 7
Short answer: No.
Longer answer: Natural gas is cheaper heat than electricity. All electric heaters are equally energy efficient; the $20 heater gives you the exact same heat as the $500 heater. Using it to just heat your room and letting the rest of the house get chilly? Ok, that would be cost effective.

Cabinet is cool to the touch. The heat comes out of the bottom/front of the unit, so that is the only area that is hot. You can open the door while the heater and flames are going. The inside of the cabinet is not hot. The controls are inside the cabinet.

Question

It says it comes in 3 sizes, does the size of unit affect the size of room heated?

asked 2 years, 9 months ago
By

answer 1
The size does not change the amount of heat that the units provide. All three sizes use the same heating unit.

answer 2
I now own all 3 sizes of these Duraflame heaters-small, medium, and large. According to the manufacturer's instruction manuals, they are all the same wattage (up to 1500watts#, and all the same BTU's 4600 BTU's). Remember, wattage is how much electricity it uses, and BTU's is the measurement that denotes how much heat it emits. So if we go by the manufacturer's info, all 3 sizes should heat rooms equally, and perform the same. So I guess we are just paying for the size of the cabinet, and not for technical specs.

answer 3
Yes it does effect the size. We have our beautiful little stove a 9x10 room that has shrunk to 5x7.

answer 4
I have done further research on this. Duraflame confirms that all sizes have the same wattage and 4600 BTU's. So all three sizes should generate the same amount of heat, and use the same amount of electricity. However, this heater is also a decorative item. So if you have a very large room or area, the large size heater might look better than the small size. So aside from the technical specs, it's also a matter of aesthetics.

answer 6
The description on Walmart.com and on other websites says that all of these Duraflame heaters are 1350watts. But when you open the box and read the instruction manual, the manufacturer indicates 1500watts, so there is a discrepancy. Nonetheless, all of these heaters are the same strength; you are just paying for the size of the cabinet. However, if the heating grilles differ in size, that can affect how quickly the heater heats a room. I do not know if the grille size differs in these heaters, but my guess is that Duraflame uses a standard-sized grille across the board. I own the medium sized unit, and I just ordered the large size. When I'm done comparing them, I will post an additional comment.

Yes, you can run the heater if the stove is on carpet. While the heater is at the bottom of the stove, the vent that the heat blows out of faces forward. You should just try to avoid putting something directly in front of it.

I don't know about the small size, but the medium and large sizes are made of sheet metal. The sheet metal is lightweight, but gives the appearance of cast iron. The controls are located on the front inner panel...you need to open the door to access the controls. The door "glass" is made of a heavy clear plastic, but looks like framed glass.
