They are made of steel and then are blued to protect the steel's finish. They always need to be wiped down after handling them with a fine coat of gun oil and they will stay pretty as long as you have it! JB

it is painted cast alloy. that said, it is kinda heavy and solid, not minimalist, so the alloy will hold well. it is also a low pressure load, and with the lever action, there is no auto cycle system. the hot gas from the powder just goes strait out the barrel. to cycle the round and recock is all manual. it is a functional piece, not a piece of art. i personally have beat the snot out of mine and with the original blueing gone and the paint chipping it still performs admirably.
It is painted aluminum.
