Questions & Answers for Rust-Oleum Rust-Oleum 1gal Kit Pro Grade Truck Bed

Question

Does everything come in the package?

Saw a video about the application of this product that showed a special drill attachment, special roller, a common paint tray, etc. So - what all comes in the kit (other than the spray can version of paint which seems needed for the corners of the truck bed and I assume would be a separate purchase). I like the alternative to the cost of the pro liner applications, want to be sure as to what all is required before I consider this option. And - do you have to apply in a closed/windless environment (i.e. the garage at home) or is a calm normal day okay? Thanks

The Professional Grade Kit includes the following items:
1. The base
2. The activator
3. 4" roller frame
4. 4" roller cover
5. 2" brush
6. Drill bit mixing paddle
7. Sanding sponge
8. Solvent resistant gloves
9. Instructions
There's kit has enough product to compete an 8' truck bed.

Other items needed (not included):
1. Mineral Spirits, (or Xylene, or Isopropyl Alcohol)
2. 2” wide, low tack masking tape
3. Paint roller pan
4. Power drill

You will want to apply this in a well ventilated area. A calm day would be best for application as you don't want twigs, leaves or other debris getting onto your wet surface.

Question

What is in the 'Rust-Oleum 1gal Kit Pro Grade Truck Bed' kit' that is included making it different than the 'Roller Kit' and 1gal of coating?

I am working on an older truck. I am trying to figure out the difference between buying the 'Rust-Oleum 1gal Kit Pro Grade Truck Bed Liner' kit or the roller kit and the 1gal of coating. How clean (rust free) must the bed be before applying the liner on?

The Professional Truck Bed Liner Kit is a two-component epoxy coating and will provide more durability than the single-component Truck Bed Coating.
The Professional Truck Bed Liner will perform well on sound rust, but you would want to remove as much of the rust from the surface as possible before using the Truck Bed Coating.

The Professional Truck Bed Kit includes the product to do the project, while the Applicator Kit does not.

1) SURFACE PREPARATION – CLEANING THE TRUCK BED
• Sweep out debris.
• Wire brush any heavily rusted areas to remove rust.
• Power wash or scrub the truck bed with household detergent and water,
cleaning all stained and soiled areas. Rinse well and allow bed and tailgate
to dry thoroughly.

2) ROUGHING UP SURFACE AND DEGLOSSING
• Using the supplied sanding pad, sand/abrade the entire area that is going
to be coated.
• Give special attention to waxed areas; be sure to remove all wax.
Truck Bed Liner will not adhere to waxy surfaces.
• Sweep out debris.

3) SOLVENT WIPE: Make sure you are working in a
well-ventilated area, are wearing protective equipment and
have read all cautionary procedures described on the
material safety data sheet or label of solvent being used.
• All surfaces must be wiped down using a clean cloth or rag plus Rust-Oleum
Mineral Spirits, Rust-Oleum Wax & Tar Remover or Rust-Oleum Paint Prep Wipe.
• Periodically rotate and replace cloths and always use a clean section
of the cloth.

Rust-Oleum Professional Truck Bed Liner can be removed at a later time. We would recommend using a media blaster to remove the coating. However it can be removed with aggressive sanding or a paint stripper.

We do not recommend spraying Rust-Oleum Professional Grade Truck Bed Liner. It is very important to roll the product on with our applicator because the roller helps develop the texture.
