Question

Calories must be wrong

I don't possible see how the calories for this salad can be 190, it must be more like 290 or 390. The dressing alone is probably 190, then add cheese, fried tortilla strips and chicken. Please review, being a diabetic this is very important.

You are correct....too tasty to be so low calorie. The nutritional information is a little deceptive because most people assume the salad to be a single serving but it actually is FIVE servings. A single serving is 130 calories so, if you eat the entire salad, it is 650.

If you are trying to watch the calorie count and glycemic index, you may want to consider leaving out the dressing and crisps altogether and adding in a little more grilled chicken breast. Or maybe skip the cheese or replace with low-fat.

For me, the dressing and crisps make the salad what it is but you could make a homemade version with the greens, red bell peppers, grilled or rotiserried chicken (with southwest flavors) and the pico de gallo......no fat and lots of flavor.

Hope this helps.

On the bottom of the container it states there are 5 servings in each package, that is why it is 190 calories (which means It would be 650 calories per package.) But that is incorrect as well. Stated below is the correct Nutritional Facts for this product from my findings.

Yes the Nutritional Facts are inaccurate on the "Marketside Southwest Salad, 17.75 oz. from Walmart." If you take a part the product itself and weigh them you will be able to see it is nowhere near the calories stated, and that's just what I did. These are my findings and they are pretty exact:

1oz (1/8 cup) Mexican Style 3-cheese blend Shredded, 55 Calories, 85mg Sodium, 12.5mg Cholesterol, 4.5g Fat, 3g Protein.

Walmart does carry a 14 oz bottle of Market Side Chipotle Ranch Dressing. You would find it in the produce in the specialty section. You would need to check your specific Walmart but I readily find it in my store in New York. Its about $3 for the bottle.

Yes in stores only. It is in the produce department. It's called Chipotle Ranch Dressing (Marketside), 90 Calories. Don't mistake the one that is made with yogurt which is only 30 calories. The original "Chipotle Ranch Dressing (Marketside)" is much better tasting. They also have a dip in a square container if you are interested.

Question

Is this nutritional information correct? If so, is it really 5 servings?

I've bought the smaller version which is prepared as 1 serving. I've compared the two and it seems the larger serving might be 3 times the 1 serving.

If you are referring to the salad in the black container with the clear lid....the nutritional information is given based on five servings. You would need to multiply everything by five if you eat the entire salad.....which would be 650 calories.

There is also a "family size" bag kit that is sold without the chicken. I believe the calorie count on that is only slightly lower per serving.

The "chicken salad" version of this (with pasta instead of greens) is a single serving for 580 calories.

According to the nutritional information, fat accounts for approximately 70% of the calorie count. So if you had the entire salad without the dressing and chips, it would be about 225-250 calories if you still left the cheese and chicken. If you skipped the cheese, it would probably be about 175 because its not a lot of chicken and the greens and pico de gallo have no fat.

Question

Can the fried tortilla strips in Marketside salads be purchased?

I love your Marketside Southwest Salad. Just today realized the Marketside chipotle ranch dressing is available separate from in a salad. Love it! I'd also like to find packages of the fried, seasoned tortilla chips like those sold in a salad. Are they available to purchase? If so, where and under what brand name? I would like additional ones in my M-side salad.
Thank you!

Fresh Gourmet brand has 3 different products that you can combine to recreate this topping. They have Santa Fe StyleTortilla Strips, Lightly Salted Crispy Jalapeños, and Lightly Salted Crispy Red Peppers. I just found the website for them, so I haven't tried them to see if it tastes the same, but I have had the Santa Fe ones and they are a yummy addition to any salad!
