Yes, it can lay flat you just have to turn the wand a certain way. Took me a few times to figure this out. But works very well under furniture.

The floor tool can lay flat as the wand or hose so if you can get the wand or hose under there, it will work.

The vacuum head DOES NOT lay flat if you clean under stuff. I tend to take it off and just use the hose myself.

Completely flat? No. But low profile, yes. If your bed is 6" from the floor you'll be able to clean about 12" under the bed effectively. However, my bed is 8.5" off the floor & I can catch most of the dust bunnies from under it. The suction will pull dust bunnies even once the head is not flat on the floor. This is if you're using it on bare floors; on carpet I would not recommend. Also, I prefer the "carpet" attachment even on bare floors for some clean-ups.
