Mine is driectly on the frame - no problems. It's certainly firm enough that you don't need a box...

It depends on how firm your mattress is. I bought a faux temperpedic and it is too cushy to hold firm and sagged and I had to get a board to put under it and figure up a brace for the middle with cement blocks. It works but I would advise a box.

With the head and foot board installed and using the feet for extra support I have had almost 500 lbs on this and don't notice any flex in the frame.

Question

Exact width of full sized frame.

I have an older headboard and footboard that is slightly wider than the frame I have now. I want to be sure this one will fit. If someone could tell me the width between the connector holes for the headboard/footboard when the frame is set for the full bed I would appreciate it!

I think it was 51-55 inches. Remember, the brackets have slots.

I have a full size bed in this frame. The plates for a headbord and footboard have oval slots, 1 3/4" long (positioned horizontally) so you can attach headboards/footboards of slightly varying widths. The width of the frame is 54". The widest width within the slots (from the far left of one plate to the far right of the opposite plate) is 53 1/3". Hope this helps.

Yes, you'll need a box spring or some sort of wood/slatted base (see ikea for those). A mattress alone would not be firm enough and would, like, sink.

Kristen -
Yes, you will need a box spring. If you do not have a box spring it will void the manufacturers warranty. Also, you need a steel/metal bedframe that has a center bar that is supported by a wheel that hits the floor. Otherwise, your mattress will begin to sink in the middle and again, having the wrong frame will also void the manufacturers warranty. Finally, you should have a mattress cover that is water resistant because any spills or damage from cleaning your mattress will also void the warranty. Buyer Beware.

You can use it without a head or foot board. Then, when you decide or get the money add them.

My answer is no! The queen is too long in length and it does not adjust downward. I just returned the queen and will order the full. So do not buy the queen expecting it to work for the full size mattress.

Question

Can you take the legs/wheels off?

I have a headboard and footboard, so I don't need the legs or wheels (can't tell from the small picture what they are)

Thanks!

Yes. The legs (it doesn't have wheels) are not installed in the frame when it is delivered. If you choose to leave them off it is up to you, but I put them on as extra support for the bed as the frame is not going to be strong enough to support the weight on its own.
The legs are adjustable to just about any height that you would need up to about 8 - 9".

I would say likely not in your trunk. It would likely lay well across your back seat unless you drive a really tiny car (I've been in some compacts that were decent size, and some I like to call "Matchbox" cars) but all-in-all I'd say be safe and have a small SUV if you decide to buy this.

Question

Confused by the pictures

So I am totally confused. The middle support bar should go parallel to the headboard but most of these pics show it running perpendicular. How does this support anything? I got a bedframe from a friend and the support bar runs down the length of the bed in the middle and doesn't seem to support anything. Which way is correct???

The picture shown above is the frame configured for a king size bed. A king size bed has two twin box springs and one king mattress. The support rails are shown in a horizontal position in order to support those two twin box springs.
When you configure the bed as a Queen size, the support bars are positioned parallel to the headboard.

Both sizes are able to be made from this Queen/King bedframe.

answer 2
No, the middle support bar SHOULD go perpendicular to the headboard. This is to support a split box-spring fully along its edges rather than at a single point in the middle.
