Question

Can you download apps directly on the tablet and easily?

I think a few of the $99 tablets require you to download apps to an SD card and then transfer. That seems complicated. I want to download straight to my tablet the way I download straight to my Android smartphone. Thanks!

The included Amazon appstore is great and you should always check the free app of the day. There's even an app to remind you but it's in the Google Market. You can put the Google Market on the DOPO if you are up to hacking but you have to "root" it first, which I did with an app called Gingerbreak but check the forums at XDA-Developers.com for thorough info.
Since you have a droid phone with the Google Market you can also back up apps from it and "sideload" them to the DOPO and no you don't have to use an SD card and if fact it's much easier to do it with Dropbox, even if you're not a hacker.

This can be a bit confusing at first...

There are several different android application markets. The Google App Market has the most apps, including exclusive apps like Google Maps. Unfortunately Google restricts access to its app market and only allows manufacturers who license their products to use the official Google App Market.

This DOPO MD 702 comes preloaded with the Amazon app market and does NOT have access to the Google app market. The Amazon app market has several popular apps, gives away a different paid app for free each day, and allows you to install your apps on all of your devices that have the Amazon app market installed on them (buy once, install on multiple devices). It is easy to obtain and install new apps through the Amazon app market... but it does not have nearly as many apps as the official Google app market.

You should visit both the Amazon app market and Google app market, see what each has available and decide whether or not you can live without the official Google app market before purchasing this device. I don't fully understand why Google has chosen to restrict access to its app market and have no idea if this will ever change.

There are several other app markets that can be installed as well as other ways to obtain and install apps. You can search Google to find more information about this.

This has an ereader program installed, or you can download the Kindle app from Amazon to read Kindle books. We've downloaded books in ePub format (usually found in libraries or at free books sites).

YES, this makes a great eReader. I think it came with a reader but I always put Aldiko and/or the Feedbooks reader which include catalogs of free and Public Domain (author dead 70+ years) books. Gutenberg.org is also a great place to get the free ebooks. The Kindle app also works great on it and they have a fair selection of free/PD titles as well.

Only Amazon. It is terrible. Amazon did not have nearly enough apps. I returned this for one with Android Market. What is great, is if you have an android phone and already puchased apps, a tablet with Android Market knows which apps you have from your account that you can download to the tablet and you don't have to pay again. You just download them.

There is probably someone who could answer this better. I read that manufacturers need to be certified by Google to allow customers to use the Android app store. The dopo manufacturer isn't certified.
However, the dopo comes with the Amazon app store already installed, which is different than the Android store. So far we've liked the tons of apps we've downloaded (all for free and many better than for the iPad) from the Amazon app store, and Amazon offers a free app for download every day.

I purchased a generic case from ebay for 7 bucks shipped. It works perfectly. Just compare the DoPo's measurements to the case measurements and you will find one that works great. There are many for sale there very cheap.

I may have already answered your question in another post. The User manual says to not put a screen protector on, so we didn't. You might want to try one, though. We wanted a hard case to take it traveling, and it looks like the one for the Acer Iconia A100 would fit the best. The dopo is 7 3/4" x 4 5/8" x 1/2 " high. I couldn't find any fitted cases made to fit it's particular specifications.

The instruction booklet says to not put a screen protector on it. It would probably be your choice, though. I did some research and ordered a hard case (my husband wanted it for traveling with the tablet) and bought a case that fit the Iconia A100 tablet. The dopo is 1/2" high, 7 3/4" x 4 5/8" which seems like cases made for the Kindle Fire wouldn't fit. I didn't see any fitted cover/case that was the exact dimensions, so I didn't get anything fitted. But take the tablet and check against the fitted cases to be sure. We also use a Rocketfish stylus, but it's not necessary.
