The answer to your question is fairly detailed, so rather than try to cover everything here, please check out page nine of the owner's manual at the address below. Just cut-and-paste the address into your browser's address bar.

I've also attached an image of the page, but it may be too small.

The DR430 plays and records standard definition DVDs. When playing back to your TV, you can set the resolution sent over the HDMI to the TV. You can choose 480 Standard Definition, 720 High Definition, or 1080 Full High Definition.

Here's where it gets interesting. Stay with me 'till the end.

I'm going to assume that your TV is 1080p resolution.

The display panel on a 1080p set is always 1080p resolution, regardless of the resolution received by the TV. When the TV receives a standard definition signal, or a 720p HD signal, the video processor in the TV must (up)convert the signal to 1080p resolution so it can display it. If the signal received is 1080p, the signal is displayed in it's native resolution, with no conversion.

The player is also capable of upconverting the signal from the standard definition DVD you're playing. You can select the 480, 720, or 1080 signal output in the player's menu. So now that you have two devices that can upconvert the signal to 1080, which one do you allow to do the conversion?

Remember, the TV will always upconvert any signal received that is not 1080. Play a disc you know well with the DVD player output set to 480. Look at the picture and how well the TV is upconverting the signal, paying attention to how sharp the picture is. Now play the same scene with the player set to 1080 output and compare how the picture looks to the previous viewing. While it is possible you might not even see a difference, if you do see a difference, always set the player's output to the setting you had when it looked best.

You probably got more than you bargained for here, huh? :-)

answer 3
The recorder will connect directly to your TV for playback of your DVDs.

For recording, you will need to connect an external source such as your cable or satellite box, camcorder, or VHS player. There is no tuner built in for direct recording from antenna or cable.

The DR570 recorder does have tuners built in. It was recently discontinued, but you can find them with a Google search.
