Question

Is water included?

This product says "everything you need" but then some of the items listed are dehydrated. Is water included? Also, the pictures show fresh grapes and bread. I would rather it be more accurate so I know what I'm getting.

ALL of the items are freeze dried so they will require water. Water is NOT included as it is too expensive to ship and is readily available almost everywhere. Preppers will have filters for their water.

Question

Difference between this and the Emergency 30 Day Pail

Was trying to figure out what the differences were between this item and the 30 day emergency pail (same company). Any ideas?

Google Augason Farms for the details. The 30 day emergency pail has food for 2 meals a day and a stove, fuel and water filter plus a couple of other things I can't remember
answered 7 months ago

Grandmother12345
answer 2
Something else to note:

According to the Augason Farms website, the 30-day pail has

- Up to 20 year shelf life sealed; *** pouch life up to 1 year after opening pail ***
- This pail is guaranteed to contain 300 servings that can provide 1,857 calories per day for 30 days

Where the 1 month pack has canned items that can stand alone, so opening the box does not shorten the shelf life the way that opening the pail does. I will point out, however, that most of the items in the canned kit actually have a shelf life of 10 years.

Another thing to note is that the calories/day is higher with the 1 month canned kit than with the 30 day pail. From the website again, it states:

- The pack contains over 540 servings and provides a 2,073 calorie diet per day for an entire month for one person! All cans have easy pop-open tops, so no need to store a can opener with this item.

The items in the pail come sealed in mylar bags. The 30 day pail also includes a water bottle with filter and a fire starter disc.

The calorie count per day is very similar, as are the foods. The primary difference is the mylar bags vs cans.

Question

Can Food Stamps be used to buy this food item?

Being that this specific product (Augason Farms 1-Month Emergency Food Pack) comes in a "box", can I order it via the website, select "cash" to pay for it, then go to my local Walmart and pay for this item via Food Stamps?

Product Description: "The Augason Farms 1-Month Emergency Food Pack is packaged for long-term storage in a convenient, easy-to-carry box."

Thank you for your time and response.

I'd try that, ship it for Store pickup then go down and pay for it with your food stamp card. The most they could do is say no you can't do that. Heck it's food, and it's not junk food.

Question

Do you have to cook any of the meals?

answer 1
Yes, you do have to cook some of the items (like the rice) or at the very least add boiling water. You will need around 90 to 100 gal of water to prepare the food.
answered 7 months ago
By
Grandmother12345
answer 2
Yes. As nearly all of the items are freeze dried or dehydrated, you have to reconstitute all of them.
answered 8 months ago
By
MovingFaster
answer 3
These cans contain individual items that must be reconstituted to provide a dish for a meal. To make a normal meal you will need to prepare more than one item each time you eat, just like at home. The difference is that you do NOT have to 'cook' each item but only heat it to allow for proper moisture content for tenderness.

I think that it would be more than enough for 5 days. These meals are NOT sufficient for a construction worker but are more than enough for the average adult.

answer 2
I would absolutely NOT rely on these foods to feed 6 people in a personal care home for five days, as their needs are different from normal adults, and the package items require some preparation.

One of the factors people consider when buying this product is its mobility so that they can run away, or "Bug out" in an emergency.

If you are trying to build an emergency storage section for an enclosed community like a personal care facility you are better off planning a menu based on your personal experience, go into walmart and buy exactly what you need, including canned goods & etc, and you will probably save money while giving them better food to eat.

A far more important problem to address, which is almost always overlooked, is how you are going to prepare the product in an emergency. You will need a stove of some kind and sufficient fuel to cook the food.
Also I would suggest you pay a good deal of attention to water storage. I noticed in emergency situations that we always used more water than anticipated. Also, some thought should be given as to how you are going to keep their medications should power fail.

Yep, of you have 6 people it would last you 5 days. Each person would be getting about 2073 calories per day.

These seem to be very stable over a very wide range of temps. The temps found in a trail camp should work very well even after opening.
