it's made of pressed particle board and while it's not real wood, it's still heavy although I can move it around. It isn't sturdy unless you purchase L-shaped brackets to keep it from swaying to the side as it's narrow and top heavy.

The product if fiberboard with a thin piece of cardboard for the back.
Supposedly it weighs 70 lbs. I don't think it weighs that much. My

Question

question on measurements

The measurements state "Mainstays Storage Cabinet dimensions: 21.31"L x 15.44"W x 59.88"H" - I am assuming that the 21.31"L is really the width and that the 15.44"W is the depth - this is all based on the picture.
Looks like a great product and the reviews support that.

There are 4 useable shelves. The middle & bottom shelves are 'fixed' shelves and it comes with two adjustable shelves. There are 3 sets of pre-drilled holes for the brackets you put in to support the adjustable shelves in both the upper & lower part of the cabinet (3 in each section) - this give you the option of placing the shelves at different heights. You can order additional shelves & shelf support brackets from the manufacturer though, so you could have more, but the way the holes are set, if you put in 2, the adjustable shelves would only be a max of about 5" apart.

Question

will this cabinet hold a microwave

asked 2 years, 1 month ago
By
ruby
on Mainstays Storage Cabinet, Multiple Finishes
11 answers
Answers
answer 1
It depends on the size of your microwave ... the interior fixed shelf in the middle is 20"W by 15" D. The weight load for that shelf is 50#, so a small one would probably fit. You'd just need to make sure it's a size that you'd have enough space around it to have air circulation, otherwise the heat that's generated will damage the microwave. Another thought to consider .... having it inside the cabinet might eventually cause the wood to warp or the interior finish to peal too because of the moisture that's created when you cook.... I don't KNOW that, but it seems reasonable that that might happen.

I think it can hold a small microwave as long as you be sure to anchor it to the wall properly. I would buy another bracket and add it as a little extra security. But it is pretty sturdy all it's own once you use the anchor provided.

No, not really -- maybe children's clothes -- (small hangers), but it is not deep enough for standard hangers. Also, the center shelf is a 'fixed' shelf & you cannot assemble the cabinet without it so even if you put in a rod, you would not be able to hang anything more than about 26" long in it.

Hi alf-

The wardrobe would not be deep enough or long enough because there is a board right in the middle of the unit.
You might want to check other units. If you go to Walmarts search engine and type in Ameriwood Mainstays Storage Cabinet. It should pull up all the units we have. I believe there will be one there that might be more of an intrest to you.
I hope this helps. If you have any other questions please feel free to ask.

If you put 'L' brackets on the top & bottom of the cabinet and attach those to the wall (like into a stud), it probably could be mounted up off the floor. The bracket that comes with it is only for stabilizing (so that it can't tip over then you pull open the doors) and that would not be sufficient alone for mounting it up on a wall.

Hi JGunner-

This unit cannot be mounted to the wall. The warranty will not cover it and it really is too heavy to mount.

I wish I could have helped. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.
