No. It does not interface with laptops. Not that that matters. Both of the units I purchased 3 months ago have failed and no longer will interact with ANY computer although I can still copy pages on it using it as a regular, non-computer connected, copier. I strongly advise you NOT to buy this unit.

This unit does NOT make noise as it is warming up. It seems available all the time and responds to print requests right away. BUT it does make noise while actually printing and would not work in a situation where you need to consider sleepers nearby--such as in a joint dorm room. The bigger problem is that these units are seriously defective. I both TWO of these units 3 months ago and both have already stopped working. You also can't use any form of discount in cartrages in them. This unit will ONLY operate using original HP 61 cartrages and those only make less than 100 copies each so ink is just NUTTY EXPENSIVE with these units. If you want your printer to last longer than three months---don't buy this product.

Yes you need to buy the USB cord. At first when I set the printer up using the CD installation, it told me that I had the option to skip the cord and just install the printer program onto my laptop. But then I was like.... ok.... where's the USB cord then?!?! Then I double checked the box that came along with to see if I would need to buy the cord and on the box, it BOLDLY stated that I do need to have my own USB cord.

Yes, but if you already have one with the 2050, you should be able to use that. Unless, of course, you still need it for the 2050 as a 2nd printer. They don't cost much, though. You should be able to pick one up at Walmart for just a couple of bucks.

When I was considering this printer our server uses Windows 8. I went to HP's website and there was a download available. It's not software that is on the CD. Since I hooked the printer up locally, ultimately it wasn't an issue for me. Check out the website below. Just did a google search on HP 2512 drivers. The drivers do seem to be available for this 2500 series printer.

Yes it does. You are actually offered a program called HP Photo Creations for free once you set up & register the printer with HP. I also have HP Photo Essentials on my computer, but I can't remember if that came with this computer or the last one I had.
