Questions & Answers for Relion ReliOn Prime Blood Glucose Test Strips, 50ct

Question

Why do ReliOn Prime meter/strips show my sugar is 40 points higher than my Contour Next meter?

I'll try the comparison again another day but my instincts tell me this is a rip off product.

I found a wide range of discrepancies using other meters including Contour, Liberty and Tru2Go meters. Only the Freestyle has been largely reliable.

Mine are fine. Check your test strips with the meter solution. That should tell you whether or not it's a true reading.

Because there is lack of quality control with ReliOn meters and strips. I didn't even have accurate readings when I used the Bayer Contour a couple of years ago. There seems to be no true glucose reading other than when done at the lab.

I disagree with you. Been using mine for 10 months now with no problems at all. Maybe an occasional test strip that codes Error.

Normal variance when testing on all meter is 30 points. This would be considered acceptable (iup to a 60 point spread is possible).

Call Relion and order a test solution that they provide at no cost to insure that your meter is working correctly. I did mine and it was fine. You should also test your other meter. I never heard of it!

+/- 20 points of "lab" accuracy is NORMAL for ALL these meter/strip blood glucose measuring devices. Every vial of Relion test strips has a "control" range printed on it. When it's working properly, the meter/strip will test within this range when you test it with "control solution" from Relion. Relion will send you a vial of control solution free of charge upon request (e.g., visit the website). If your meter/strips test within that "control" range, it's working properly, within its normal range of accuracy.

I HAVE COMPARED THE RELI-ON METER/STRIP RESULTS WITH RESULTS AT THE SAME TIME WITH THE BAYER PRODUCT AND GET RESULTS WITHIN 5% OF EACH OTHER - MAYBE YOUR EARLIER METER IS NOT WORKING WELL - I HAVE TWO RELI-ON METERS AND THEY GIVE RESULTS WITHIN ABOUT 5% WHICH IS 5 GLUCOSE UNITS - PRETTY GOOD FOR SUCH A COMPLEX PRODUCT. iF YOUR GLUCOSE NUMBER IS ABOVE 100 - SAY 120, THIS IS WITHIN 8% - PROBABLY ABOUT ALL YOU CAN EXPECT OF THESE PRODUCTS - THE PAPER YOU GET WITH THESE TELLS YOU THAT THEY ARE NOT FOR CLINCAL RESEARCH - THEY GIVE YOU A PRETTY GOOD INDICATION IF YOU ARE HANDLING YOUR GLUCOSE GOOD OR NOT SO GOOD.

It's my understanding that this entire testing system was designed by a US company called Arkray. The individual components (meter, strips, lancets, lancing device, etc.) are manufactured and packaged abroad, to Arkray specs, and then sold/distributed in the US by Wal-Mart under the "Relion" brand name. My meter, for example, was made in the Philippines; strips in Taiwan, and lancets in China. This kind of manufacturing/sales structure is common to ALL these meter/strip testing systems ... INCLUDING the ones other American "big pharma" companies are still charging their customers an arm and a leg for ... with NO corresponding difference in quality or accuracy.
