Low storage space and a lot of preloaded garbage aps that you can't get rid of seems to be a problem with most of the lower priced androids - ZTE included. Go in to "manage your aps" and you can move a lot of what you have to the SD card to open space. Past that, you'll need to look online for instructions on how to remove some of the preloaded stuff.

This is only a notification prompt when the phone gets below 20mb of free space.
Continue to do as you have with clearing ram and closing programs.
Also restart your phone.
When I had the AT&T version of this phone, I simply uninstalled the updates to Maps, Youtube, Voice Search, anything Google and it left with me with around 50mb of unused space. You could also try to move as many things to the SDcard as you can through an app called app2sd.
If you don't use the GPS, that could be used as a solution.
