It is possible, but highly unrealistic to get a service plan on it. The only way you could do it is to tether it with your phone internet. You can google how to that, good-luck (y).

There is no cellular wi-fi available for this tablet. You MUST be near a wi-fi hotspot or at home in order to watch online content but you can download games and movies locally the same as an iPhone and watch them offline.

As long as there is WFi in the vicinity and it's open access or you know the password, then you can use the WiFI. It will automatically detect the signals around you.

Question

What case can I get for the HKC-7-Capacitive Touchscreen Tablet?

I bought a HKC for my daughter for Christmas and she's asking for a case to go with it but all I can find is the ones you unzip and put them in. I'm looking for one that's like the one we got for the ipad that makes a stand. Thanks for your help.

I found covers that open up like a book and double as a stand made by Polaroid at big lots ($8) that fit. Another friend of mine said that she found another one made for the google nexus that fit this tablet as well. The one I found by Polariod was for their tablet, but it also said on the package that it would fit the google nexus as well.

The Filemate 7" Eco Case works and it can also stand, not as perfect as the iPad case, but it works. There are two types, one with a button closure and one snap cover.

You can move the icons on the home screen by pressing down and holding on them. Once you do that you can either drag them to a different screen (left or right) or drag them up to the trash can at the top to remove them entirely from the home screens. To add icons to the desktop, go to the home screen first. Then go into the list of apps (upper right icon on the screen) and then press down and hold on the app you want to add to the home screen. You should now see the home screen appear and you can drag it to any where you want to put it on the home screen.

Hope this helps.

As for the free e mail services, I've only tried Gmail via the gmail app link and it works. Mostly I stick with my ISP (Centurylink# account and access that via the tablet Web link bar which gives the same screen that is on my computer home page # I made a icon on the tablet for later repeat use#. For me, and only on these tablets #Kindle & HKC), it makes me log in twice twice. No big deal, so I log in twice. Hope this helps a little, I'm learning as I go along. Its fun though.

You can easily check a gmail account on it. It also has another configurable email client on it that you can link to other email accounts (though I have not tried it to see how well it works).

There is a micro USB port. So if you purchase a keyboard with a compatible micro, it should work. As far as word processing or completing documents like Microsoft, No. But, the HKCdigital.com website answers the question providing a name of a product to download that will allow Adobe PDF, creating, editing, etc. I saw it was $19.99. Check their site and find the name to research further.

It has a micro usb port, much like the one on my Blackberry, so if your portable keyboard had the same, or an adapter, a regular keyboard should be able to be used. As far as microsoft word, No. But, there is a program they recommend on their website, www.HKCdigitial.com. I looked at it and it appears for $19.99 you can download a program that will allow word processing, Adobe, PDF, etc. You might want to check out the website and research the program.

No, it's just got a common mini-USB, and that's on the side. Almost all of those docking stations are made for Apple products only, except for the few made specifically for the Samsungs, Toshibas, Dells, etc.

No. I'm letting my 1 1/2 year old daughter play with my old itouch, which she can navigate instinctively and it never freezes up. Contrast that to this device which freezes up, has an inaccurate touch screen, and has a limited selection of apps that actually work, I wouldn't recommend it for an 8 year old since it would probably produce a lot of frustration. This device seems more fitted for someone who's tech-savvy and has a lot of patience to deal with all the glitches.

Yes, you can get the kindle app from amazon.
Get the screen dim app from the amazon marketplace. It allows you to set custom light levels on your tablet to adjust the brightness. This will ease eyestrain when reading.

Yes, you can download books from the Google Play store and read them in the pre-loaded Google Books app. You can also use Chrome to navigate to Amazon.com and download the Amazon App Store and then download the Kindle app. Once installed, you can access your Kindle books as well. However, for long-form reading, I'd recommend using an e-reader since the backlit screen and glare from the tablet cause a lot of eye strain. It's like reading books on a shiny computer screen.

There is an old cell phone charger that works on this tablet.
Audiovox model CNR4.
You can still find a few on Amazon and Ebay.

If your charger was defective (like mine was) then just do an online search for HKC's e-mail address. Then e-mail them asking them to mail you a replacement charger and postage paid envelope to mail back the defective charger. I did that and in a few weeks received a working replacement charger for my HKC tablet.

Amazon (as of 1/26/13) has wall and car chargers for this tablet. (Typi in "HKC charger")I got an extra because of all the comments on it being a weak point on this tablet. So far the original is working fine for me.

I'm sorta guessing, but have you gotten an"Google Mail" account? It seems to me that I started with that on my computer (google "g mail", then on my tablet I responded to a query as to what account I wanted to use. Anyway, I think you need a g mail account. I found Google Play for apps a bit less intuitive than Amazon Apps. Good luck.
