Question

My dogs have severe allergies; would you recommend the lamb and rice or the grain free?

We are currently trying the Grain Free, but since this one says for skin sensitivity on it I am wondering if I should change them.

I'm not for sure without knowing anything about your dogs but mine had gotten so bad that all of hair fell out and her skin was actually starting to die and fall off (from all of the meds she has to take), since she has been on the Lamb and Rice her hair has grown back and her skin seems to be healing.
Hope this helps, Good luck.

For most allergic dogs, the Pure Balance Grain Free formula is a good first try, as allergy to Salmon and pea proteins would be relatively rare, so the protein sources in this formula may help a dog with more common food allergies (beef, chicken, egg) or any grain allergy issues. Also, the diet has good sources of essential fats and oils derived from the fish that can help maintain healthier skin and coat. I would keep on the Grain Free for at least 4-6 weeks to allow the changes to occur. If the improvements aren’t impressive, you can always transition slowly to the Lamb and Rice.

Question

Is it ok to feed my african mastiff puppy( 16week old) the lamb & rice dog foog?

He seems to be having a food allergy. I was feeding him Iams large breed puppy food, but wanted to see if maybe this more natural food could better his allergy. I was unable to find a pure balance for puppy, but read somewhere that this type was ok for all life stages. I am wondering if it would have the right balance for a large puppy breed?

Thank you.

Although my little guy is a bit older than your puppy, he too has a sensitivity to any dog food with grains. I had to take him off any grain based food, or treat sometime ago and since then no problems. I'd say this Pure Balance dog food would in fact be GREAT for any puppy or dog with allergies or sensitivities.

What you might want to do is buy the smallest bag available and VERY SLOWLY transition him over to this stuff. Fair warning though, my little guy transitioned himself over to the Pure Balance dry and canned on a rather sudden basis. It might help the transitioning if you also buy some of the Pure Balance canned and mix a bit of the canned with the dry either in the morning or evening.

I personally don't think you can go wrong with this Pure Balance food, it's a great price, it's designed specially to be no grain, and dogs seems to love it. At least mine does!!! As for the issue of "puppy food versus dog food" that is more marketing than real need, in my opinion anyway. That isn't to say puppy food doesn't have its place but I don't think it is necessarily required. A good diet is much better than simply sticking to puppy food.

I don't think you will be sorry if you try this and do a SLOW transition from his current food to this. Good Luck!!!!

It seems to help our dogs, they have allergies to some food esp: corn. You could certainly try a small amount and see. Lamb and rice also seems to be very tasty.

Pure Balance is manufactured exclusively in the United States. All Pure Balance products are made with the highest quality ingredients. The diets are free of corn, wheat, and soy, and contain meat first. They have no chicken by-product meals, artificial colors, flavors, or preservatives. All ingredients go through meticulous safety testing, including a triple check process where ingredients are tested when we receive them, during manufacturing, and again via finished product testing. Ingredients are sourced primarily in North America, though some ingredients are not. For example, real lamb is sourced from New Zealand and some vitamins unavailable in North America do come from other countries. Our manufacturing facilities are independently certified by Safe Quality Foods (SQF) recognized around the world as a rigorous, credible food safety management system.
