Questions & Answers for Colt DO NOT PUBLISH Colt LE6920 Carbine Semi-Auto Rifle, 223 Rem/5.56 NATO

Question

Is this Colt AR15 rifle California compliant?

California Walmarts don't carry this rifle. I'm wondering if I could pay for one in Reno and come back after the 10day waiting period and bring to Cal.

LOL. I don't recommend you doing that. You are responsible for knowing the law and what you're talking about can get you into alot of trouble - years of trouble if you know what I mean. To answer your question, no, this rifle is not CA compliant.

answer 2
It probably is NOT legal in CA. Look on the manufacture's website, most offer CA/NJ compliant versions (I know DPMS does). IE: Barrels are pinned and welded, stocks cannot collapse, magazine limits, etc.

Most gun stores will not sell to CA residents if it violates CA laws. You need to purchase a rifle that comes with 10 rnd magazines.

No - how I understand CA. I suggest you visit the Bushmaster website because they do make Cali compliant weapons and you can read on what makes it compliant etc. Also, check the attorney general's website (CA). I think they list by brand and model what is allowed in CA.

answer 2
Yes the LE6920 can fire both rounds. It's specifically chambered in 5.56mm NATO. The 5.56mm NATO round is rated to higher chamber pressures than the rem 223. You are good to go, it will fire either.

Note: Never fire 5.56mm NATO rounds in a Rem 223 chambered rifle. They aren't designed to handle the higher pressure.

Yes it's a Colt with a 1/7 barrel twist, not a cheap imitator. Should eat both types of ammo just fine. Gun store guys tell me Colts will fire both but cheaper guns will not due to barrel type and quality.

The Colt 6920 is stamped NATO 556 which means it is designed to fire the higher pressure 556 NATO rounds AND it will also fire commercial .223 rounds without any issues but there will be a slight loss in velocity and accuracy. With other manufacturers weapons it is not recommended to fire NATO 556 in a weapon built for and marked 223 velocity rounds.

My Bushmaster came with a rear MBUS (Magpul backup sight). I believe It's worth it over the carry handle as the sight sells for like $55.00 (approx.) at CTD. I'd be irked that they quit giving the sling, but mine was a cheap strap w/the plastic adjustable tabs on each end... Also the PMAG 30rd mag will do you better than the metal mags. Cleaning kits are cheap at Walmart too.

I would be O.K. with this 2013 change. I almost bought this LE6920 at my Walmart right b4 the election in 2012, but I went with the Bushmaster --Magpul edition. If you can find it now...BUY IT!! It doesn't get much better than Colt for an M4 in that price range.

Bought it online at CTD and saved $100 in state tax! Something to keep in mind...

I purchased the LE6920MP-B model and it does have both. They sell more than one model at Walmart (though the website doesn't expressly show that). So you'll have to double-check the actual gun in the store before you buy it to be sure.

Both are great and have been tested under fire by the police and military for many years. Colt has the historic name, battle tested reputation and is the "first love" for many owners. The Bushmaster was born in the era of plane jacking terrorists (70s) and kicked it's own share of butt to earn it's reputation. BUT there is a krinkle to this story. Colt was founded in 1836 and still going strong with all that history and experience. Bushmaster was founded in 1973 and recently sold to Cerberus Capital Management - New York bean counters. The original Bushmaster team went on to start another company called Windham Weaponry. Soooooo, Colt is still a Colt and Windham was the original Bushmaster and the new Bushmaster is well...essentially new company who bought the Bushmaster name and MFG specs. In my opinion, get a Colt and let the dust settle on the other two. But, if you still want a Bushmaster, check out Windham Weaponry.

I own both a colt and a bushmaster platform ar, both are excellent weapons. I have inspected both weapons in the walmart store, and straight from the box I prefer the Colt, as it had the heavier M-16 bolt carrier. Both will do what you want, I just prefer that particular bolt carrier, and could replace the one in the bushmaster with no problem, but then I would be in the cost range of the Colt.

They are both fine weapons, but remember Colt was the one of if not the first to manufacture the M16/AR15,that being said most current AR platforms are well made.Check out Wyndam Weaponry

The Colt is a better weapon. This is the standard and all others work to be it.
Most likely, unless you are very familiar with the AR and its variants, you will not be able to tell the difference. It does cost more than the Bushmaster (which is actually a Remington), if you are thinking of Bushmaster because of its reputation you need to buy a Windham (made by the old Bushmaster people). In the end, it comes down to what you want having owned both I would say pay the extra and get the Colt.
