It is capable of 4G, but it may not be available in your area. To see if it is Find an AT&T coverage map and check by typing in your zip code. BTW the 4G speed is not the new 4G LTE it is HSPDA version which is the original 4G speed before LTE. You will also want to see which one they are broadcasting in your area. Prepaid T-Mobile and Virgin also have this same phone, if the AT&T towers don't cover your area.

If it is the Sprint/Verizon version, it is 3G, as Sprint doesn't allow anyone other than Boost or Virgin to access their WiMax (4G) network. If i is the T-Mo/AT&T version, it might get HSPA+ which is 4G, but this will not get LTE.

I'd like to correct someone who already answered your question.

CDMA is Sprint/Verizon, Sprint does not own GSM towers. GSM is AT&T and T-Mobile. Just like the BYOP program.

If you have to insert a sim, it is GSM, if no sim is involved it is CDMA. The way to be sure is to go to Settings and look under the APN. There you will see what MVNO this phone runs on.

if the box says CDMA on the outside, then it will work on Verizon's network. GSA is AT&T/Sprint/T-Mobile

This phone is actually carried on GSM networks so it will either operate on T-Mobile or At&t

Many of the phones operate on verizon. They had some that worked with sprint but I don't know if they still have those. If you go to www.straighttalk.com in the phones section, it tells you the network. If it doesn't you can call them and/or go to the Walmart store and they will tell you. I have the Samsung Galaxy Proclaim II and it works on verizon. It may also depend what service you are with. I am talking only about straight talk.

Question

Why won't Samsung Galaxy S II work in 12914 area?

What network does it run off of? I don't see why it won't work in 12914 but if I check surrounding zip codes (13665, 13662) it says it will work. I really want this phone. Any advice?

Probably because AT&T is svc provider, Unless they use multiple service providers for this specific phone. AT&T is the provider for the Galaxy S II s sold in this area. AT&T svc is poor to non-existant in my area. 15 miles north of my home, AT&T svc is acceptable.

It runs off of T-Mobile or At&t. There isn't really a way to guarantee which provider will carry the phone you purchase so if one of the other isnt available in your area, you can't activate the phone there.
