This is not a reel that is specifically built for saltwater. Of course you can use it in the salt. You should definitely give the reel a rinse with fresh water after every time in the salt and it will require more frequent cleaning. Even with that, you will eventually start getting corrosion faster than you would with a saltwater approved reel. If this reel interests you, I would look to buy a Zebco 808 Saltwater reel. I have a few of these myself and they are solid.

yes you can,but you will need to rinse it off every time,and oil it again,or you could buy zebco's 808 saltfisher reel or combo,it is made for salt water all stainless steel bearing,cover,and spools.i have seen the reels for 30 dollars and the combo that has a very good e glass rod for 40 bucks that is rated 40lbs test and is 2 piece 7ft rod.this reel also is mag. rated gears and drag.
