If you are a frequent texter, this is not the phone for you. It is pain to compose a message. That said, you can change text entry method by going to your message icon (the envelope), options, entry mode. T9 is useless, I use the standard ABC, Abc, abc, 123. With these, you can switch back/forth with the arrow key, bottom left hand side of keypad.

This phone uses a T9 text input system, with predictive text technology. Each numbered key has the potential to stand for 3 letters. When you wish to enter a letter with a T9 phone you must tap the number with that letter on it the number of times corresponding to the position that letter has on the key itself. For instance; when you wish to enter the letter "C" you must press the key numbered "2" three times in quick succession. The cursor will move to the next letter space automatically and you can enter the next letter. If it happened to be "U" you would then press the key numbered "8" three times in quick succession.
