China. Google them and read the Wikipedia entry. They have been making TVs since the 70's.

The Hisense 40 inch edge lit LED tv is almost an exact duplicate of the Vizio 40 inch with the same internet apps setup. We have both, and while the HiSense has the very thin screen depth that also is found on the Vizios, you'll find that it also has several other markings on both the front and back that confirm that they were made at the same facility with the same components. Anyone who is getting an inferior picture uqality just has not taken the time to get the setting set right. As we did in the store display. We had the HiSense, vizio and Samsung all lookig like they were all the same picture quality.

You can't! TV's have dots (Pixels# arranged in rows and columns. 1080 means this TV has 1920 columns and 1080 rows of dots. As the previous person answered, you set the resolution with the player or box. You also need cables. 1080p can only happen with a HDMI cable. Component cables #Five cables# can do 1080 but interlaced meaning only 1/2 the screen on one pass then the other 1/2 on the next pass. Composite cables #Three cables) can only do 480i. I'm not sure but I believe that the coaxial from a VCR can only do 240i. So for the best picture from this be sure to use the best cables possible.

The TV has no moving parts so it should be able to last 15 years of continuous use. What harms these TV's is physical damage to the screen. This means a toy thrown at it or someone rubbing the screen with window cleaner and a rag. Putting the TV flat down in the trunk and driving home on a bumpy road will damage the microscopic wires in the screen. This damage might cause the TV to only last a few years. Just past the warranty. The other thing that takes Flat Screens out is power surges. 30 bucks for a real surge protector is cheap insurance. Don't bother with less than 3,000 Joules. Hisense had a problem with power supplies last year so don't ignore a real surge suppressor or buy cheap. My TV is good for 3 years because I purchased the additional 2 year warranty that specially includes power surges and physical damage.

There is no way to know that. It depends on the tv itself. You are always taking a chance, no matter what brand of tv you buy.

Question

Mini headphone output to stereo RCA input jacks on receiver?

I noticed it has an headphone output but no analog audio output RCA jacks, only a digital audio out. Can I buy a 4 dollar adapter from the headphone mini plug to RCA jacks and then plug that into the RCA input jacks on my old audio receiver, rather than having to buy a 40 dollar digital to analog converter for the digital audio out signal?

I bought the TV so I can answer my question. Yes, you can use the mini headphone plug to feed the analog inputs of a stereo receiver and it works fine. The only drawback is if you want to also use the TV speakers you can't because they turn off when you insert the mini headphone jack.

I like to use the TV speakers and my stereo speakers through my receiver at the same time, so I am going to buy a digital to analog converter which should allow that to be done.

Hope this helps. The TV is great, especially the "smart" part. I love watching "Live from Daryl's House" on my 40 inch HD TV...it's awesome.
