It is not enhanced 911. If you are not registered, it will use the built in GPS function and tower triangulation to locate your postion, just like on a cell phone.

Straight Talk markets their Home Phone Service and uses the Verizon Cellular network and towers. Does interface with any other service provider.

No it is Straight Talk Verizon Only. People with Straight talk call *22890 to update the software in your phone (I do it a couple of times a month with both of the numbers) then dial *22891 to update your tower signal strength.

Yes. This is what ST says about portability and taking it to a different address:

"New address must be within network coverage."

They also have FAQs for people who MOVE and want a local number so others can call them w/o long distance charges. Answer is basically: call ST and get a new local number. If you plan to come back to your current "local" address (area code?), I think this means you can just keep your current local number and people from "home" would have to make a long distance call to reach you?

Of course, if the important people in your life ALSO have ST Home Phones or nationwide cell phone service, you won't have to worry about it?

Reception should be good to excellent.

Walmart has a great return policy... just keep all packaging. It's 15 for "prepaid phones and cards," and 90-days for other electronics, with some exceptions. Not sure which this is classed as, but here's their return policy page:

http://help.walmart.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9

So, you'll have at least 15 days to try it with the phone number they'll assign to start, then return to store for refund within 15 days?

The Straight Talk Home Phone uses Verizon Wireless native voice coverage. If you wish to see the exact coverage, go to the Verizon interactive coverage map and enter your address and choose the "Prepaid" button. All the areas marked in the purple-shaded areas will have coverage with the Straight Talk Home Phone as these areas are in Verizon's native voice coverage area.

Unfortunately, this will not work in Canada. There will be coverage in 49 U.S. states. The only state which this will not work is Alaska where there is no Verizon native coverage (there will also be no service in Puerto Rico or USVI).

Is it possible to try the phone with a new number and port in your home phone at a later time.

I think you can, if you remain a subscriber to your old provider. I say that because if you drop their service without porting the number, they may very well give it out to a new subscriber. (If you ever started getting calls on a new phone for an old subscriber, you can appreciate how short the turnaround time for a phone number can be.)

But the overlap time between the two services can be as long as you can afford, I would imagine.
