No. You don't have to have ANY phone service at all to use this ST Home Phone.

If you do have a tel. service now, it can replace or supplement that service.

You can use those 3 phones plus more if needed.

Yes, you can use those three phones and add more if you want.

At your main phone location, you can plug a tel. cable from the ST box to that phone jack, plug the phone into the back of the ST box, and use that phone there, as before.

However, now all your existing tel. wiring is "hot" since it's connected to the ST box at that main phone location. Your existing phones plugged into home wiring will work as before.

I have an 8-phone wireless set connected to my ST box. You could also add a wireless phone base to the 2nd jack in the back of the ST box and put wireless handsets wherever you want... I've got one in the bathroom!

Yes, you can use more than one phone. It has two places to plug in a phone. I have three working phones, four if you count the extension to my cordless phone. Two of them are plugged into the same jack where the house was already wired for phones. My husband figured out how to do it and it works.

There is no sim card involved with this.

answer 2
No SIM cards are involved. The box is a self-contained cell phone for home use... portable, however, and battery-powered for use in power-outages or for short term use in another location that doesn't have household power.

One guy took his phone from Dallas to his daughter's place in Houston to try it out there (I think those were the cities involved, but you get the idea)

It will work the same in any area code. It runs off of cell towers.

Ron, since this is a cellular-based unit, it's similar to your cell phone when you travel to another area code. In other words, it's seamless. It will pick up a signal from the nearest Verizon Wireless cell tower and provide you with service just as if you had a Verizon cell phone.

It will work the same in any area code. The important thing is if you have cell phone service in your area, which you can check by entering your ZIP code in the red box at the top of this page.

It is not a Home Phone. It is a Home Phone device that you pay a $15.00 per month service fee for Local & Long Distance calling.
You plug a regular home phone into the device.

Actually, this is the wireless device that you hook up your home phone to. It may be a bit expensive, but for what you pay in phone bills, you will get your $$ back in no time.

I agree with others that you should have no problem on Vashon Island with this device. I'm originally from the Puget Sound area and all of King, Pierce, and Kitsap counties have very strong and extensive Verizon Wireless coverage.

Yes, as long as you have cell phone service there. Being so close to major metropolitan area, I can't imagine why not.

Go to top of page and enter your zip code to check.

answer 2
Your cordless phone system should work just as it would when connected to a land line.

HOWEVER, do NOT set up the voice mail system that is provided with this service. The Straight Talk Home Phone will provide a basic external voice mail feature which is provided by Verizon Wireless. It will be similar in features and function as if you had a Verizon Wireless cell phone where messages are kept on an external server and purged after a certain number of days.

Alternatively, you can set the answering device on your cordless phone to pick up on fewer rings than it would take to have the external voice mail system to activate (should you set up the voice mail provided by the Straight Talk Home Phone).

answer 3
I have 8 cordless phones attached to my Home Phone box thru the base unit and it answers all calls first, so if we;re not on the phone, it will activate the cordless base's answering system, as normal.

However, if we're on the phone and a call comes in that we don't want to switch to at that moment (call waiting), the ST box will answer with its own answering system (if you set it up). One of the front blue LED's on the box will blink indicating that it has a call waiting for you to hear. Dial *86, enter your PIN # (done at setup), and it will deliver voice mails it has and allow you to save ot delete them.

Why do I need to give my social security number?

In my first Answer, I said you did NOT have to give ST your SS #.

That's still true, meaning not the ENTIRE SS#. ST says you might have to give them the LAST FOUR DIGITS of your SS# if you want to port your old tel. number to your new ST home phone. That's used as an I.D. when they make the porting request to your old tel. supplier so they can verify it's your account... sort of how you might have to verify it's you, and not someone else, when you call them.

answer 2
I think this might be used to verify your account with your former phone company, if you are having a number ported/account closed. The last four digits of the SSN are used as an account PIN by some companies.

answer 3
You SHOULD NOT give your SS # to ST!

In fact, if you go to Walmart and buy a box and service card, you shouldn't even have to talk to anyone at ST where someone might ask for that info.

If ST is asking for your SS#, I would suspect a scam... they don't need that info. Even if you sign up for Auto-Pay, you only have to give them your credit or debit card number... that's it!

DO NOT GIVE ST YOUR SS #!

If you want to keep your landline phone number, do not cancel the service before activating the Straight Talk account. If you do want to transfer the number (called "porting"), you should select the "activate account with other number" option, Straight Talk will handle the cancelling for you.

Most every answer given on the weekend gets lost in the Walmart system so this may be a repeat.

You don't need to if you want to keep it also, but most people do AFTER they get theor ST Home Phone up and running and their tel. number ported (if they want to keep that number).
