Question

Will this work with Directv?

answer 1
No you will need a land line for your Directv and internet. Directv has new rules that you have to have a phone plugged into your DVR all the time. If enough people leave Directv maybe they will fix this. ( OK well I can't leave Directv because most of the time I love them lol) I saw in one of the ads that this service will not work with DVR so no it will not work with Directv. I also ask Directv and they said it wouldn't work. You can't plug a cell phone into your DVR.

Because Direct TV uses a different frequency, it should not cause a problem.

Question

I have lots of screeching on my end. Do I need to use another phone?

Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be my phone. The person I'm speaking to says they can hear fine and the line is clear, but I have so much screeching I have a hard time hearing them

In my 1st Answer, I mentioned a "wired jack" to test in another room. Obviously, no wired jack is needed... I was thinking of a wired telephone (or wireless) to plug into the ST Home Phone box... in any room or location.

You don't even need power if you've got the battery in the box.

I'm really not sure, but sometimes I hear an echo of my voice on mine, which I also sometimes heard with the straight talk cell phone I had.

I can't tell if that is coming from the service or the phones, but it could very well be the service since they are two totally different phones.

Also I don't hear it all of the time, but I noticed it more when standing in some areas of the house versus other areas. So, it may also depend on your service area.

You could buy another phone brand to see if it's actually the phone. Whatever the results, you can either keep it or return it. Hope this helps.

You've probably got some interference in your home. Mine had some weird noises until I changed the channel on my internet router, which was right under the ST Home Phone box. (Best to manually set routers to ch. 1, 6 or 11 rather than "auto" set.) I also put one of my DSL filter in the phone line from my wireless tel. base unit and the ST box.

Could also be other devices nearby... try it in another room, like a bedroom (if you're using a wireless phone with it or you have a wired jack there).

You might have to exchange it if you can't find a source in your home.

no. This is device acts as a cell phone (meaning it use the cell phone towers to provide you with service, not the internet), you just plug your cordless phone or any phone (not rotary)into the device and it works.

Yes. It gets programmed for one tel. number, which rings however many phones you have connected to it directly (like my 8 phone wireless set) or to your existing internal wiring (plug ST box into one existing wired jack).

If you are in a Verizon dead zone, you will not be able to get services for this system because it uses Verizon towers. (You can go to straight talk online to see if it is available in your area just to be sure.) I do not know if AT&T have the same system for home phones but you can check the website.

Yes, you can set up their "Auto-Pay" option online or by telephone using a credit or debit card.

Every month, they send a notice that they're going to charge for the next month's service, then another email telling you they did that.

No. There is no "programing" of the device, like a place to store blocked numbers as in some landline systems. Any programming is done remotely from ST.

I agree with others that you should have no problem on Vashon Island with this device. I'm originally from the Puget Sound area and all of King, Pierce, and Kitsap counties have very strong and extensive Verizon Wireless coverage.

Yes, as long as you have cell phone service there. Being so close to major metropolitan area, I can't imagine why not.

Go to top of page and enter your zip code to check.

You can do either: buy one or multiple cards at Walmart (exclusive, I think). Use one card each month, or add cards to a Reserve account and they'll apply each every month to keep you active.

You can also sign up for auto-pay with CC or debit card and they'll send an email advising you they're going to charge your account, then they;ll notify that they DID charge your account.

Ann, I don't believe Sam's Club carries either the unit or the cards. Most Walmart stores will, however.

You can either purchase the cards online with Walmart or Straight Talk directly or in the store at Walmart and put them in your "reserve" account to extend your "service end date" out as far as you'd like. You do this by giving Straight Talk the code (or PIN) to the card where you can enter it to your account online or give it to them by phone.

And yes, you also have the option to set up "Auto-Refill" with Straight Talk where they will charge your credit or debit card every month automatically so you don't have to worry about remembering to do it manually.
