Questions & Answers for Murray Murray 22" Gas-Powered High-Wheel Lawn Mower

Question

Is the handle height adjustable?

I recently bought the Murray 20" push mower ($138) and had to return it to Walmart because the handle is too long for me and not adjustable. I'm 4'10" and the top of that mower's handle almost reached my shoulders. My local Walmart has none of the lower priced mowers in stock so I can only go by the photos and info provided online. Someone previously posted a question about this mower's handle adjustability but there were conflicting responses ( 2 said yes and 1 said no) Please, does anyone know for certain if this mower's handle height can be adjusted?

My Murray 22 inch High Wheel mower ($168) came with the economy 2 position handle, which is 39-1/4 high at the top of the handle. It can be adjusted (by removing 3 bolts and two cotter spring clips) to a lower position, 38-1/2 inches at the handle top. Not a big change, but some help.

Murray also has 2 models of 3 position handles, EZ and QUICK, which I assume come on higher price models. How to adjust them (all 3 models) is in my owners instruction manual.

This model has a high and a low setting, which are very easy to position the handle. I am 5'10", and did not need to adjust the handle. It could be adjusted lower.

Please do not forget to prime the gas (button located under the air cleaner). If this does not work empty all the fuel out and pour in some fresh fuel. Use fuel stabilizer to help the fuel stay fresh much longer.

answer 2
make sure oil level is good, check gas, make sure spark plug cover is tight, pump the primer 3 times and it should tart. If not, maybe you have water or dirt in your gas.
answered 1 year, 1 month ago
By
Casey62
answer 3
check spark plug wire to spark plug connection. make sure you prime with the pumper on the side. (red push button) check the oil level, these engines have an internal low oil cut off that will not let it start if the oil level is low. if you cannot pull the string, disconnect the spark plug and try to turn the engine by hand by spinning the blade from underneath. if it spins, try the above again. if it still does not work, take it back and exchange it for another one. they mak a milion of these thigs on an assembly line; you just happened to get a broken one.

Change out your old gas with fresh gas. Change your spark plug and clean your air filter. Replacement spark plugs are sold at your local Wal-Mart. If this does not solve your problem, than a local small engine repair center may be your best bet.

Question

I do not want to mulch. What do I need to do exactly to use this as a side discharge mower?

Do I only need to remove the plastic piece that covers the discharge opening? How do I do that?

First, lift the spring loaded side discharge chute and hold it up. Then, with your other hand, pry up the top rear corner of the plastic hole cover until it pops loose (prying with a screwdriver is easier). Then pry up the hole cover top front corner until it pops loose. Now you can lift the hole cover off. Lower the side discarge chute, and start mowing.

answer 3
Very simple.....just lift up the discharge shoot, and take hold of the plastic cover that covers the discharge opening. Pull upward and outward and it snaps right out. Then the mower is ready for full side discharge.

answer 4
It's kinda awkward but you have to lift the spring loaded side door and then use a screwdriver to pry off that plastic discharge cover. It lifts on the same direction as the chute cover.
Get help from someone to hold that thing lifted while you remove it.
Once you take that plastic cover, you install the discharge "exit" which just plugs in and the spring loaded side-door, now holds the chute in place.

raise up the black thingy and just pull up and it unsnapps. I thought I had to undo the silver rod but no, the mulcher blocky thingy just snapps on the rod.

answer 6
No need to remove the plastic mulch plug as it's attached to the mower. To side discharge, lift up the mulch plug (it's spring loaded) and insert the side discharge chute that was provided with your mower. It inserts where the hinge mechanism is that holds the mulch plug to the mower. Ther are no tools required. When the time comes to mulch, simpily lift up mulch plate and remove side discharge chute.

Question

Gasoline Usage

I have heard that gasoline with ethanol added damages lawn mower engines big time..... Anyone have any knowledge on this subject.

The gas will evaporate and leave ethanol deposits that are like a gum. If storing for long periods of time you should run the mower dry first. the carb is the only real issue.

By
pistol73se
answer 2
It does on certain equipment but I have not had a problem with my Murray at all using gas with ethanol. Having said that, I just paid $50 for a new carb on a gas generator that I bought from another store. I paid for a 3 year extended warranty on the generator and everything was covered except the carb! Read the fine print on any warranty you buy! I will never put ethanol in my rider! The key to using ethanol gas is to run the tank empty when you are through using it! I will also say that I have never run my Murray dry and the carb on it seems to be impervious to ethanol. Its 2 years old and starts right up. Hope this helps.

answer 4
Yes, modern gasoline with the added ethanol can cause fuel related problems. Ethanol absorbs moisture and draws water into the fuel which causes poor performance and over time can harm a small engines plastic components. This is not a problem in cars or vehicles since most are driven daily and fuel is used up or turned more often.
In seasonal type equipment ( mowers/ trimmers/ snow throwers ) fuel sits for long periods of time which allows for this breakdown or moisture problem to occur. POPULAR SMALL EQUIPMENT RETURN ISSUE is caused by bad fuel. Person buys new piece of equipment and then uses old fuel in gas can. Walmart carries many fuel additives or stabilizers that helps prevent this from happening.
