This phone is locked. I purchased it 2 weeks back and I have returned it. I couldnt justify having a phone with such awful customer service with straight talk and I was curious to see if I can push it over to Verizon or other cdma networks. after a couple tried the final answer was no.

This is a CDMA model not the GSM, and it is LOCKED to straight talk.

Buyer beware.

answer 2
A1429 is an INTERNATIONAL model. It is actually better than A1428, since it is designed to work in Asia/Europe/Central and Latin America. It is a DUAL BAND CDMA/GSM

Model A1429 – CDMA/GSM Global Model
This iPhone is the one that CDMA carriers and all European and Asian carriers will sell. Like Model A1428, it supports quad-band GSM and quad-band UMTS with single cell and dual cell HSPA+ modes. This model trades in support for LTE band classes 2, 4, 5, and 17 for LTE band classes 1 (IMT, 2.1GHz), 3 (DCS, 1.8GHz), 5 (Cellular 850, 850MHz), 13 (Upper 700MHz C block), and 25 (US Extended PCS, 1.9GHz). Additionally, it supports CDMA2000 on band classes 0 (Cellular 850, 850MHz), 1 (PCS, 1.9GHz), 10 (ESMR 800, 800MHz), and 6 (IMT, 2.1GHz).

And I already see poster's commenting about jailbreaking ST I5's. You don't hear from them when ST will deactivates their accounts and their phone's serial #.

No, It is clearly labeled in Straight Talks TOS that you cannot use your device to tether or stream music and videos.

I am sure there will be a way to get around it, but If you abuse your data usage you threaten your service to be terminated.

Warranty is 1 year. You may also purchase additional coverage specifically for hardware and support, see the website www.straighttalk.com for the agreement.

Aside from that, electronics purchases at Walmart.com typically come with an offer for two year "Care Plan" option that covers accidental breakage and is likely pro-rata, not replacement nor purchase price. HOWEVER, it was not offered when I placed I5 in my cart. I digressed, please check Straight Talk website for coverage.

I think if you purchase a Apple Care $99.99 on an Apple Store covers 1 year only, I don't know if Walmart offers some insurance for 2 years.

The carrier offers Straight Talk Easy Exchange program where you may be eligible to trade in a damaged phone, check your options at http://www.straighttalk.com/handsetprotection Please note that activation zips in Florida and California are not currently eligible for this program.

The battery is sealed in the phone and cannot be removed without literally taking the phone apart. There are cases that have external batteries built in. In all honesty though the battery on this phone is pretty darn good on battery life.

LTE is disabled. On Verizon it is limited to 3G speeds. If you put an AT&T sim in it will do HSDPA+, but no LTE.
answered 1 year, 9 months ago
By
Larry30814
answer 2
HSPA+, no LTE on Straight Talk yet but one day there will be. Probably not for at least 1 to 2 years though.

All iphone 5's are LTE capable but carries usually lock them to their own networks.

Only Apple stores sell a truly unlocked iPhone and they only sell GSM/LTE unlocked phones which can be used with TMobile, AT&T, and yes, Straight Talk.

Also YOU CAN TAKE A LOCKED AT&T IPHONE TO STRAIGHT TALK AND IT WILL WORK.

ST doesn't support LTE. It supports HSPA+ which is marketed as 4G but really isn't true 4G. HSPA+ is plenty fast enough for most people. If you want to know more about HSPA+ just google it.

I have a iPhone 5 from at&t using Straight Talk sim card and the network gives 4G not LTE speeds, you can activate the LTE but only get 4G speeds but that is better than 3G or EDGE using Tmobile.

The main question is this device is GSM or CDMA in the last case Verizon or Sprint give access to 4G LTE speeds?

These run on Verizon's prepaid network - No 4G service.

You'd be better off buying unlocked from Apple for the same price, and buying the Straight Talk SIM card cut down to nano-SIM size. That will give you AT&T's HSPA+ "4G" network.

There are two versions of the phone. This phone is sold supporting Verizon's CDMA 3G (EVDO REV-A)/ 2G (1xRTT) or...

The GSM version supports AT&T and T-Mobile's GSM 1G (GPRS)/2G (EDGE)/3G (HSDPA) and "Nationwide 4G" HSPA+ 21 for AT&T and HSPA+ 42 for T-Mobile.

I just bought this phone today and I can confirm it works on the verizon prepaid 3G network. We get terrible service in my area from most carriers but verizon is excellent. I downloaded an app to show the network I was on so I am positive it is verizon and that it is 3G only which is plenty fast enough for me.

Are they the same phone that you can get through either Verizon or A&T? Or are you limited (besides the tethering and streaming) in any way?

I was just needing to know before I buy from walmart if they are the same or fairly limited because it's a pay as you go? Hate to buy a new iphone5 and not be able to use it to it's full potential. thanks

I've been using AT&T-compatible (unlocked) iPhones on Straight Talk for several months with their SIM cards. You can do just about everything except for streaming and tethering, as you mentioned. App downloads over cellular can be hit or miss. Just be careful how much you do. If you go over 100MB per day, they can throttle or cancel your service.

Yes, but No. (See Straight Talk terms of service sections 6 and 7 specifically.) http://offers.straighttalk.com/st-terms.htm

In other words, it's against their TOS, it's not recommended, although it is possible. I use it on a very limited basis, and I haven't encountered any problems, but I only use it to look up something on a webpage, download a book to read from Kindle, or send a quick email from my laptop.
