According to the Apple website and the numbers listed in the Walmart description the phones are the unlocked model of GSM and CDMA networks.

Quote from Apple
The unlocked iPhone only works on supported GSM networks, such as AT&T in the U.S. When you travel internationally, you can also use a nano-SIM card for iPhone 5 from a local GSM carrier. The unlocked iPhone 5 is model A1428.

If this a CDMA version you can not use in USA with any of the GSM providers such as at&t or Tmobile because the band frequency is different. You can use overseas in the GSM networks in Europe or Latinamerica

Straight Talk is a GSM carrier (they use SIM cards) and as such it is unlikely that you could transfer your number over. One way to be sure is to ask either or both carriers. Call them.

I believe it's locked. However, the SIM card slot may be unlocked. If it is, it would work on a GSM carrier (T-Mobile, AT&T etc.). If you want a truly unlocked iPhone 5, buy direct from Apple for the same price.

Question

AGAIN: Is this phone sold unlocked.

It doesn't matter what carrier, country. If I place a SIM card that is not from StraightTalk will the phone say it's locked to StraightTalk or will any GSM SIM card work?

Forget about the LTE question!

You cannot use this phone outside the U.S. You cannot use a SIM card. It is locked. Straight Talk won't unlock it even though you pay full price. Get the unlocked phone from Apple directly. You will pay the same.

YES it's unlocked. Any time you see that full price, it's unlocked. Phones are only sold locked when they are carrier subsidized. In other words, when AT&T gives you the phone for $199.00 with a two year contract, it's locked because they need you to stay on their network so they make their money back for giving you the phone for cheap.

You must first buy a micro sim from Straight Talk and cut it to nano size. The sim costs 15 bucks from ST. Activate the sim with ST and insert in iPhone5 and you are good to go. You can buy service cards from Walmart or on ebay.

answer 2
Yes. You'll have to order either SIM card and have it cut to nano-SIM size to fit. http://straighttalksim.com

Some sellers on eBay are selling these precut. As always, check their feedback.

Follow the instructions on this site to get data and MMS working. You'll have to do this after each iOS update.:

I would think so since they have a Bring Your Own $45 plan. It would have to be a GSM phone that could work on ATT (or Tmobile)> Ask them though if theyll give you LTE - Im not sure. Just know in advance they have outsourced customer service that is horrendous. They advertise unlimited data but thats a lie. Rumor is youll get a warning if you use over 100mb a day or 2gb a month, and after that, theyll cancel your account. Many people online say that and even though I only use less t han 1.5GB a month , I used 116MB a day, and I already got a warning...so even if you used 200MB in one day but you never used any more, youd still get dinged. And you cant use services like Pandora or Netflix because they also have a no streaming policy because it uses too much data

REAL DEAL!!!

answer 2
The other answer regarding the service is correct but regarding the logos etc that is wrong. This phone is a unlocked CDMA iPhone 5 direct from apple. Attached to the apple box is a sticker with a pamphlet inside regarding how to activate it. There are no bloat ware or physical branding on the exterior of the phone. The service is very fast and snappy. But as stated before going over 100 Megs a day or 2GB a month can affect service. YouTube or streaming videos will do this easily but pandora usues hardly any data if you monitor it. Source: I own this phone and got it 2 days ago. When you call a phone with caller ID it rings Verizon wireless.

It's Straight Talk service and it has the Tracfone tribal logo. Straight Talk Iphone 5's are full price and they are the real deal.

Now, what this groundbreaking about this prepaid Apple/Straight Talk combination is, your activities will still be limited by Straight Talk Terms of Service. You won't be able to use their I5 as a Hot Spot nor exceed data transfer that could be considered not for personal use. For $45 / mo you get a lot of data usage (100MB daily, 2GB 30days). And the average subscriber will not feel throttled, if they understand the Terms of Service prohibits streaming content.

Straight Talk's Iphone 5 offers WiFi connectivity so wherever you can use a Hot Spot do so, then you'll be free from Straight Talk's Terms of Service for streaming.
