Nope. This isn't a contract carrier. They do not offer upgrades or trade-ins. If you buy unlocked iPhones direct from Apple and use the BYOP SIM card from Straight Talk (cut down to nano-SIM size), you can use Straight Talk and have an iPhone that's worth much more on the resale market when it's time to upgrade.

No.

With contract phones, carriers give upgrades because they make their money with two year contracts, overpricing their plans, and early-termination fees. Not so for Straight Talk.

With Straight Talk you pay $649.00 like you pay for an unlocked I5, street pricing, get no upgrades, have no contract, have no fees and you pay a flat $45 for 30 days. And Walmart let's you finance this I5 interest free for $25/mo for 26 months.

Question

Why buy Iphone5 at Walmart vs Apple Store?

If the Walmart iPhone 5 is the same price as at the Apple Store ($649) what is the advantage to buying at Walmart? Especially as both are unlocked and both will work with StraightTalk?

The ST iPhone5 from Walmart will work on Verizon towers with the $45 plan on Straight Talk. The one from Apple must be on a contract with Verizon if you want to use Verizon towers, otherwise it will only work on GSM network with ST.

The answer for this is simple. Apple does not sell CDMA equipment directly to the customer. If you go to the apple store and just want an unlocked iphone 5 16GB black it will be 750$ and a GSM model. The GSM phones are the ones that need a straighttalk sim and need all the goofy modifications to get them to work, and you might not even have MMS.

So again this is a CDMA iphone not a GSM and apple only sells these to carriers. This particular phone will use verizons network, and a GSM model will use att / tmobile.

You have to do a lot of gymnastics using an unlocked iPhone to get all the fetaures to work with Straight Talk. As to the elegendary support of buying at an Apple store, forget about it when it comes to unlocked iPhones as they do not support MVNO which is what Straight Talk is. I love the Apple Store, but if you want it to work out of the box as much as possible on ST, get the phone from Straight Talk (Walmart)

Walmart offers I5 financed interest-free with their credit card service for $25/mo. for 26 months. If Apple Store attracted customers because they have the money to pay, then Walmart will attract many more customers because it's convenient.

You should be able to, though initial reports seem to show service issues. This is usually fixed by going to Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings.

As with the BYOP SIM cards used in AT&T and Unlocked iPhones, you don't have to jailbreak to get data and MMS working. However, you'll want to have the iPhone IMEI unlocked to successfully get the T-Mobile SIM swap trick working easier. Search eBay for both. They can each be had for under $5-$10.

Read the Straight Talk terms of service. No video or audio streaming unless you are on a wifi connection. No file downloading either, unless you are on wifi. Otherwise it is unlimited for web surfing. Some users say that if you use more than 100MB per day, you will be throttled or worse.

answer 2
Data is limited! Straight Talk's Terms of Service prohibit streaming of any kind. This includes music (Pandora etc.) and video (Netflix, YouTube etc.). You need to be connected to WiFi for those services. Web browsing is usually fine. Heavy usage over 100MB per day or 2GB per month can get you throttled or your service terminated.

Yes and No. (READ THE TOS for actual details http://offers.straighttalk.com/st-terms.htm) Sections 6 and 7 should answer your question fully.

Most phone companies have a policy like this, except for Sprint and T-Mobile - You may want to consider them if you live within their 4G areas if you son/daughter wants to stream video. T-Mobile has an unlimited everything prepaid 4G data plan for $70/month, and while it is quite a bit more in cost, there is no worry of overusing or breaking a TOS like it is here.

You must first buy a micro sim from Straight Talk and cut it to nano size. The sim costs 15 bucks from ST. Activate the sim with ST and insert in iPhone5 and you are good to go. You can buy service cards from Walmart or on ebay.

answer 2
Yes. You'll have to order either SIM card and have it cut to nano-SIM size to fit. http://straighttalksim.com

Some sellers on eBay are selling these precut. As always, check their feedback.

Follow the instructions on this site to get data and MMS working. You'll have to do this after each iOS update.:

I would think so since they have a Bring Your Own $45 plan. It would have to be a GSM phone that could work on ATT (or Tmobile)> Ask them though if theyll give you LTE - Im not sure. Just know in advance they have outsourced customer service that is horrendous. They advertise unlimited data but thats a lie. Rumor is youll get a warning if you use over 100mb a day or 2gb a month, and after that, theyll cancel your account. Many people online say that and even though I only use less t han 1.5GB a month , I used 116MB a day, and I already got a warning...so even if you used 200MB in one day but you never used any more, youd still get dinged. And you cant use services like Pandora or Netflix because they also have a no streaming policy because it uses too much data

Looks in the Straight Talk website a coverage map of Verizon Network, but we are uncertain about if the models are CDMA and/or GSM.
