Questions & Answers for Straight Talk Apple iPhone 5 16GB, Black, for Straight Talk, No Contract

Question

Are they the same phone that you can get through either Verizon or A&T? Or are you limited (besides the tethering and streaming) in any way?

I was just needing to know before I buy from walmart if they are the same or fairly limited because it's a pay as you go? Hate to buy a new iphone5 and not be able to use it to it's full potential. thanks

Exact same iPhone, except that LTE is disabled. Only 3G service on Verizon.

I've been using AT&T-compatible (unlocked) iPhones on Straight Talk for several months with their SIM cards. You can do just about everything except for streaming and tethering, as you mentioned. App downloads over cellular can be hit or miss. Just be careful how much you do. If you go over 100MB per day, they can throttle or cancel your service.

Yes, but No. (See Straight Talk terms of service sections 6 and 7 specifically.) http://offers.straighttalk.com/st-terms.htm

In other words, it's against their TOS, it's not recommended, although it is possible. I use it on a very limited basis, and I haven't encountered any problems, but I only use it to look up something on a webpage, download a book to read from Kindle, or send a quick email from my laptop.

Yes. Same as the first one. No discounts for more than one phone. You can get discounts on service cards though by buying them on ebay and more than a month at a time. Best is 6 month card.

Each phone is billed/refilled separate. You'll have to purchase each phone separate to qualify for the Walmart financing offer via the Walmart credit card.

answer 3
Yes. But you must have two separate service cards. For example, if you bought two of these, you could put them both on the same account. However, each would be on its own plan and have its own separate number; therefore you would have to purchase the $45 unlimited card for each device.

Each phone will still have its own independent full priced monthly charges. You can consolidate phones onto one account but the prices all remain the same per phone.

Yes this will be the CDMA model that will use verizons 3G network, not sprints. No LTE mentioned.

Looks in the Straight Talk website a coverage map of Verizon Network, but we are uncertain about if the models are CDMA and/or GSM.

Straight Talk is a GSM carrier (they use SIM cards) and as such it is unlikely that you could transfer your number over. One way to be sure is to ask either or both carriers. Call them.

Keep it on wifi for video and audio streaming, downloading files and up dating iTunes. Other wise you can do all the email, texting and FB your heart desires.

answer 2
Data is limited! Straight Talk's Terms of Service prohibit streaming of any kind. This includes music (Pandora etc.) and video (Netflix, YouTube etc.). You need to be connected to WiFi for those services. Web browsing is usually fine. Heavy usage over 100MB per day or 2GB per month can get you throttled or your service terminated.

For the average users (not data hogs), this is more than adequate.

you will be fine for email, texting, emails, fb, pics (not going overboard). 2gb is more than enough for the average user.

Question

AGAIN: Is this phone sold unlocked.

It doesn't matter what carrier, country. If I place a SIM card that is not from StraightTalk will the phone say it's locked to StraightTalk or will any GSM SIM card work?

Forget about the LTE question!

You cannot use this phone outside the U.S. You cannot use a SIM card. It is locked. Straight Talk won't unlock it even though you pay full price. Get the unlocked phone from Apple directly. You will pay the same.

YES it's unlocked. Any time you see that full price, it's unlocked. Phones are only sold locked when they are carrier subsidized. In other words, when AT&T gives you the phone for $199.00 with a two year contract, it's locked because they need you to stay on their network so they make their money back for giving you the phone for cheap.

I believe it's locked. However, the SIM card slot may be unlocked. If it is, it would work on a GSM carrier (T-Mobile, AT&T etc.). If you want a truly unlocked iPhone 5, buy direct from Apple for the same price.
