It's the small 2 cup cone filter. It comes with a permanent filter, but you don't have to use it. You have to use only one, the cone filter or the permanent filter, can't use both at the same time. I use the cone filter and it works beautifully!

Question

Do you have to purchase an additional filter the little filter not for the coffee itself?

Do you clean the little filter just the same as the big filter or do you have to purchase additional filters for the water purifier?

After the first month, just throw the little filter ball away, but put the empty holder back into the machine. No need to buy more of those tiny "chlorine" filters ... just use bottled water!

some people choose to use paper filters but you do not need them. you just dump the grinds out and rinse off the filter and you are good to go. 1x a month i use a little vinegar and water to pass through it . you do have to purchase additional water filters. but you do not have to have the filter in there if you dont want to. it just makes the coffee taste better imo.

Question

Did anyone have trouble with the lid staying closed?

Just purchased this coffee maker and upon setting it up, noticed that when the carafe is in place the lid pops up. It doesn't latch. take out the pot it drops down. Taking it back and checking another just in case I got a fluke, but just wondered if anyone else had the issue. The lid just lies down level but doesn't latch which would be fine but it sticks up about 1/4 inch with the pot in.
thanks.

yes, it was a bit tricky to keep the lid closed. You have to jiggle the basket around. I hope yours lasts longer than mine did. 10 months and dead.

Sort of. That happened a couple times before I noticed that you have to have the filter in precisely the right position or the lid doesn't close. Make sure the tab on the filter is aligned with the matching notch.

In the USA a cup = 8 ounces, and that does not vary unless you go to the UK where they may use the metric system.

answer 2
In the USA that would officially be 8 ounces. I use two level tablespoons of coffee for a 17 ounce bottle of water and pour the first 16 ounces into my mug (to avoid the grounds) ... gives me a perfect BIG cup of coffee!

My experience is that coffee pot "cups" are considered 5 oz...seems to be fairly standard at all levels.
Just consider this a 24 oz coffee pot.

I just contacted the Walmart Farberware service number. The representative told me that these filters are now going to be made universal (for all coffeemakers), and that they don't know when they will start selling them, either in stores or online.
I had read in a couple different places where people suggested that if you have city water, rather than replacing the charcoal filter, you can buy bottled water and save the cost of the filter, as all it does is filter out the chemicals that are used by water treatment facilities to make the coffee taste better.
Also, if you can find them, the GE charcoal filters fit this product, but I can't find them anywhere right now!!
