If you're talking about the tiny, chlorine filter in the plastic holder that fits inside the machine, Never! Since they aren't commercially available, and similar tiny filters cost a small fortune, after a couple of months or three, throw it out. Then put the EMPTY filter holder back into the machine for good and use PURIFIED or SPRING water (in bottles) and don't worry about chlorine ever again.

If you're talking about the COFFEE filter (the big, screen filter thingy that holds the coffee), just put it into the top shelf of your dishwasher every month or so.

It varies, depending on the quality of your water, but Farberware suggests every 60 brew cycles (or 60 days if you brew one pot per day)

I finally found the source for water filters at the following Walmart website:

When it rips ... ? I've had permanent filters before and as long as you are fairly gentle with them, they'll last a long time.

It's the small 2 cup cone filter. It comes with a permanent filter, but you don't have to use it. You have to use only one, the cone filter or the permanent filter, can't use both at the same time. I use the cone filter and it works beautifully!

some people choose to use paper filters but you do not need them. you just dump the grinds out and rinse off the filter and you are good to go. 1x a month i use a little vinegar and water to pass through it . you do have to purchase additional water filters. but you do not have to have the filter in there if you dont want to. it just makes the coffee taste better imo.

In the USA a cup = 8 ounces, and that does not vary unless you go to the UK where they may use the metric system.

answer 3
In the USA that would officially be 8 ounces. I use two level tablespoons of coffee for a 17 ounce bottle of water and pour the first 16 ounces into my mug (to avoid the grounds) ... gives me a perfect BIG cup of coffee!

My experience is that coffee pot "cups" are considered 5 oz...seems to be fairly standard at all levels.
Just consider this a 24 oz coffee pot.

Charcoal is used to purify water (usually in aquariums). It really won't last very long and I believe it is suppose to last about 60 brew cycles. Myself, I wouldn't worry about it and pull it out after a few uses. That said, I use pure well water. The charcoal filter might help with some nasty city water. I have no idea where to buy this charcoal filter, but charcoal could be purchased at a aquarium store if you want to fashion your own for a lot less money.

answer 3
It's a typical charcoal filter - as with any it's purpose is to trap impurities/added stuff like chlorine or minerals. It's not necessary, but if you have a high mineral content in your water a filter will help prolong the life of any water-using appliance and keep things from tasting funky.

The filter helps remove chemicals added by your water treatment plant. The instructions say to replace filter after brewing 50 pots. Good luck finding filters.

It removes chlorine taste and other impurities from your water to improve coffee flavor. Only necessary if you're using tap water.

I think the purpose of the filter is to elinminate any particles that may be in your water. One can rinse the filter and reuse, I suppose. ersonally I never change the filter...just usually discard it after a length of time.
