Questions & Answers for Straight Talk Straight Talk BlackBerry Curve 9310C Smartphone

Question

Does this phone work off straight talk network? Or Verizon's?

They said on the news that blackberry is going out of buisness. Will my newly purchased 9310 blackberry curve not work when blackberry goes out of buisness? Why would a new phone be sold if you can not use it? I want my money back if that is the case? Does this work with Verizon's network or straight talk?

This phone uses Verizon Wireless towers. The phone will work until it fails or wears out - if RIM does go out, the phones will still work just fine. Don't take the stories of RIM going out of business too seriously as there are too many happy users out there who don't want to switch.

No, your phone will NOT be useless even if the manufacturer of the phone goes out of business. The phone will continue to function regardless.

Straight Talk does not have its own network. They use the network/towers of the four major carriers. This Straight Talk phone happens to use the Verizon native network (no roaming) and will continue to do so even if Blackberry goes out of business.

Don't worry ...be happy!

Better than the answers about the obvious speakerphone you've had so far, it has external stereo multimedia abilities so connecting it via 3.5mm headphone jack with standard polarity the kind made since the 1980's or with BlueTooth to a Bose Wave Radio or an entire surround sound system is not just possible, it's required !

Yes this phone is through Verizon towers. I will give you a little hint on how to tell if it is through verizon or at&t. the model number is 9130C. If the last letter ends with a C its through Verizon if it ends with a G its at&t. I hope this helps you in the future.

No it can't. Straight Talk prohibits using their service for streaming data, tethering (wired/wireless). So even if the phone could, Straight Talk won't.

Unfortunately, no. Straight Talk (as most other MVNOs) does not allow tethering, using a phone as a hotspot or personal mifi, or sharing the connection in any way.

Blackberries do exactly what you're describing but a BlackBerry might be the wrong solution for your purposes.

BlackBerries have intrinsically included remote management, locational and remote deletion features to protect corporate clients from data theft by focusing on protecting, locating and retrieving the phone. Whether or not the missing (or absconding) owner is within a meaningful distance of the phone is just a fortunate side benefit.

An almost endless choice of 3rd party apps of varying quality and stability are freely available at BB AppWorld for non enterprise users such as a mother trying to track her minor children.

The solutions vary in their ability to withstand tampering, parental controls natively embedded in all contemporary BB's can define whether GPS may be configured without a four digit code similar to a TV's vChip.

Other 3rd party apps (too many to list here) can be installed by authorized owners with physical access to the phone that can be used to remotely convert a stolen/misplaced phone into a remote room mic and even camera to aprise police of the conditions surrounding the devices theft and anything related to the owners whereabouts or incapacitation.

The legality of these solutions is the responsibility of the end user since the software authors make no assumption nor offer any warranty of usage.

Hopefully you've already discerned your requirements and considered the degree of tampering your minor might employ and researched solutions to address your requirements instead of deciding your solution has to be a Blackberry before considering your particular circumstances.

Don't rely on just the answers of WalMart community users kind enough to respond to your question, you need to ask local authorities and trusted groups including your local PTA for advice and product recommendations that may be purpose built exactly for your needs even WalMarts "MommyI'mHere" could be the better choice (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Mommy-I-m-Here-Child-Locator-in-Pink/16454257)
