Can I use my ATT phone number with a Straight Talk phone?

You should be able to just transfer your number over at activation either on line or over the phone. I had an issue over the internet and was given a new number, but I called Customer Service and they were able to deactivate the number they gave me and transfer my old number from Verizon to my new phone. DO NOT cancel your AT&T acct and number, transfer it first.

Yes, you'll port it to your new phone using the Straighttalk website. It's really easy, they take care of the whole thing. My two phones took a couple hours to port but you'll keep using your old phone until the port is completed.

This phone only works with straight talk but straight talk uses Verizon towers. If you are close to Verizon towers you can use it. Straight talk is prepaid. You buy a card every month. Texting, calls, and internet is unlimited for 30 days if you buy the $45.00 straight talk card. You buy another card when your 30 days is up. Straight talk will send you a text message letting you know when you need to buy another card. You can not add it to a verizon account. It only works with prepaid. I love the straight talk service been with them for several years, no problems!

Question

Can I buy an extended battery?

I find that the battery runs out on standby in less than three days. The original claim on the web site was that it would last ten days on standby.
If I use the phone a few times to talk or text, it last less than two days. I have turned off Wi-Fi and blue tooth and I am not running any apps.

You can get an extended battery but it still won't last as long as you are looking for.

That is totally normal for a smartphone. Most smart phones require a daily recharge - unlike their basic counterparts. Even a higher capacity battery will not last for 10 days. Note that I speak as a user, not a rep.

I personally have not seen an extended OEM battery for this particular phone. I notice that there are several after-market (non-OEM) batteries that have a higher mAh rating but it doesn't seem to necessarily extend the battery storage ability from what I've read ...like this one (copy-and-pate):

http://www.amazon.com/2050mAh-Replacement-SCH-S738C-Straight-CellPhone/dp/B008V3RU10

In addition to turning off the Wi-Fi, be sure to also turn off the mobile internet connection provided by the carrier as you may be connected to the internet and not be aware that you are (I'm kind of thinking that this could be the case in your situation).

Also keep in mind that the published standby times given by the manufacturers are measured under ideal laboratory conditions and real-life experience comes nowhere close. Many factors play into the measurement too such as distance from the tower ...if you are a long way from the tower or your signal is weak, it will deplete the battery much faster.

If you don't mind incoming calls going to voicemail (you can always turn the phone on periodically to check for messages or check for messages remotely), you might think about powering the phone off or put it in airplane mode until you need to make a call or otherwise need to use it.

It's actually glass. Just search for a used Centura on eBay and you can find them with shattered screens.

Here is a post about it.

If you purchased the nationwide deal then your phone will work nationwide. These phones under straight talk, work on the verizon broadband so you shouldn't have a problem. If you go to the straight talk website, there will be a map that will show you all of the places where you WILL have issues getting service and you can pinpoint exactly where you will be dropping calls.

can you speak into phone for texting(hands free)?

Yes, That is the best thing. Go to settings, then scroll to Language and input. Click on Google Voice typing to turn it on. Now if you go to text someone and you want to speak the message, click on the microphone symbol which is just to the right of the 123 Sym square. If there is no microphone symbol, and instead it looks like a little gear symbol, press and hold the gear symbol, and the microphone will pop up. Touch the microphone, and it will now appear next to the 123 square instead of the gear. If you want to type your text you can, and if you want to speak it, touch the microphone symbol and speak away. If someone sends you a picture with a text, you can save it to your phone by touching and holding the pic. It will get bigger and ask you if you want to view and or save it. Fun!

If you are referring to buying the monthly service card--then I don't believe there is a penalty. However, during that time you may lose your phone number. But, once reconnected, you can get a new number.

answer 2
Yes, there is never a penalty as you are not under contract and are paying for service in advance (or pre-paying for service).

However, the big disadvantage is if you let service lapse, you "may" lose your phone number. The word "may" is the language Straight Talk uses in their T&C and what their reps continually remind you over the phone but from what I hear through the grapevine is that they usually will give you 30-days before you actually do forfeit the number.

If having the same number isn't important to you, there is no penalty for skipping months.

Btw, I use a Google Voice number with my Straight Talk phone so that's an option you might want to consider. I can use my Google Voice number to call out and ring my phone on incoming calls in addition to my Straight Talk number. If you use a GV number then it really doesn't matter if you lose your Straight Talk number.
