If you are referring to buying the monthly service card--then I don't believe there is a penalty. However, during that time you may lose your phone number. But, once reconnected, you can get a new number.

Yes, there is never a penalty as you are not under contract and are paying for service in advance (or pre-paying for service).

However, the big disadvantage is if you let service lapse, you "may" lose your phone number. The word "may" is the language Straight Talk uses in their T&C and what their reps continually remind you over the phone but from what I hear through the grapevine is that they usually will give you 30-days before you actually do forfeit the number.

If having the same number isn't important to you, there is no penalty for skipping months.

Btw, I use a Google Voice number with my Straight Talk phone so that's an option you might want to consider. I can use my Google Voice number to call out and ring my phone on incoming calls in addition to my Straight Talk number. If you use a GV number then it really doesn't matter if you lose your Straight Talk number.

1. enter *86.

You can also set up your voice mailbox from another phone by entering your 10-digit mobile number and following the same instructions.

2. Tap the Call button. If you hear a greeting, enter # to continue.

3. Follow the prompts to personalize your greeting and mailbox options.

Since this phone will use the Verizon Wireless voicemail system, you can view this tutorial if you get hung up (copy-and-paste):

Question

Can I buy an extended battery?

I find that the battery runs out on standby in less than three days. The original claim on the web site was that it would last ten days on standby.
If I use the phone a few times to talk or text, it last less than two days. I have turned off Wi-Fi and blue tooth and I am not running any apps.

You can get an extended battery but it still won't last as long as you are looking for.

That is totally normal for a smartphone. Most smart phones require a daily recharge - unlike their basic counterparts. Even a higher capacity battery will not last for 10 days. Note that I speak as a user, not a rep.

I personally have not seen an extended OEM battery for this particular phone. I notice that there are several after-market (non-OEM) batteries that have a higher mAh rating but it doesn't seem to necessarily extend the battery storage ability from what I've read ...like this one (copy-and-pate):

http://www.amazon.com/2050mAh-Replacement-SCH-S738C-Straight-CellPhone/dp/B008V3RU10

In addition to turning off the Wi-Fi, be sure to also turn off the mobile internet connection provided by the carrier as you may be connected to the internet and not be aware that you are (I'm kind of thinking that this could be the case in your situation).

Also keep in mind that the published standby times given by the manufacturers are measured under ideal laboratory conditions and real-life experience comes nowhere close. Many factors play into the measurement too such as distance from the tower ...if you are a long way from the tower or your signal is weak, it will deplete the battery much faster.

If you don't mind incoming calls going to voicemail (you can always turn the phone on periodically to check for messages or check for messages remotely), you might think about powering the phone off or put it in airplane mode until you need to make a call or otherwise need to use it.

As you check the different phones out, you should have the option of entering your zip code at the top to see if the phone works in your area. You may need to do this with a computer rather than a cell phone if that's how you're accessing the website. If the phones you like don't work in your area, you'll need to select a different phone or go to walmart and see what they have available.

Chuck, I just did a quick coverage check of your area and it appears that you only have AT&T coverage. There is no native Verizon, Sprint, or T-Mobile coverage in the Chama area.

Therefore, you will be forced to choose a Straight Talk phone that uses AT&T.

One that comes quickly to mind is the Straight Talk ZTE Merit for $59.99 (copy-and-paste):

Yes, as long as all conditions are met. One main thing to remember is that you must keep your current service active. A requirement to "port" a number is current service be active at the time of activation with the new provider.

Therefore, do not cancel your current service before activating a new phone with Straight Talk if you wish to port (or keep) your number.

answer 3
Yes. You will need your current number's account number, password, and the name on the account. Give this information to straight talk and they can port your number. Also, your number has to be active and not under any kind of contract.
