It's because depending on the model of the phone you buy from Straight Talk, they operate on different Cell Phone Providers lines. The Galaxy S3 runs on sprint lines. The phone I have runs on a Verizon line. Some of the other phones run on at&t lines.

Straight Talk is a Mobile Virtual Network operator (MVNO) offering both CDMA and GSM support. The CDMA network uses Verizon's or Sprint's CDMA 1xRTT wireless networks and the GSM side makes use of either T-Mobile's or AT&T's GSM networks.

It is indeed a straight talk phone but the different straight talk phones have different carriers. Straight talk uses different carries such as my phone uses Verizon but another will use sprint or t-mobile. What carrier the phone uses could be a deciding factor for some.

You can't, it will only work on Sprint. To get this phone on Verizon, I had to return the one from Straight Talk and sign up with Verizon Wireless.

I spent $480 on a Samsung Galaxy S3, from straight talk. I was told it would default to the nearest tower. (Verizon in my case) Of course, when I tried to activate it, I couldn't. When I called straight talk, a nice lady spent about 30 min with me trying to active it. Then it she told me that all of there S3s are only Sprint phones. I told her that I had to have a Verizon compatible phone, she said I'd have to buy a Iphone or something else. It cost me $18.00 to ship it back. Now I'm praying that they refund my money.

Yes, this particular phone (model S960L) is true 4G LTE. However, it is on the Sprint network and we all know that Sprint's LTE network is not as extensive as the other major carriers. Sprint LTE is being expanded pretty quickly, though.

Be careful when ordering. There are two versions of Straight Talk SIIIs. The other version has the model number of S968C and uses the Verizon network but is limited to 3G. It is NOT 4G LTE. If you do not see "LTE" in the description of the phone, it is the Verizon version and will be 3G.

So, if you are in a good Sprint coverage area that has 4G LTE, this phone will be the ideal one to get as it will be blazing fast.

If you are not in good Sprint coverage, you may want to consider the S968C.

They are essentially the same phone except for the carrier and the LTE issue.

ETA: here is the Sprint native coverage map if you want to check your 4G LTE coverage. It may not be totally up to date as Sprint is rolling out LTE rapidly and they claim to have 4G LTE in all their entire native coverage area by the end of 2014 ...wishful thinking IMO. copy-and-paste:

Yes, but you will have to order the S968C. This particular phone is the S960L and will be on Sprint.

To order the 968C on Verizon, go to this page (copy-and-pates):

However, the Verizon version is 3G only. This phone, the Sprint version, is a true 4G LTE device.

Unfortunately, no stylus is included.

No, the phones Straight Talk sells are intended and required to be used with Straight Talk plans as per their Terms and Conditions of Service and also states so on the box.

The phone featured on this page will use the Sprint native network and is true 4G LTE. As such, it will be extremely fast if you are in a Sprint LTE coverage area. However, as we all know, the Sprint network in general isn't as extensive as Verizon or AT&T.

You can also choose the other version of the SIII (model designation S968C) that Straight Talk sells which uses the Verizon native network. However, that phone will be limited to 3G but will have the advantage of using Verizon's vast network. Copy-and-paste this link to order that phone:

Again, the color of the phone has nothing to do with either what network it will use or whether it will be 3G or 4G.

There are two versions of the SIII offered by Straight Talk and sold at Walmart. One uses Verizon and the other Sprint. They both come in White and Pebble Blue. Therefore, there can be FOUR (4) separate phones that can be ordered.

The one featured on this page (the S960L) is a Pebble Blue phone that uses the Sprint native network. It is a TRUE 4G LTE phone and will have very fast internet/data speeds if it has access to Sprint's LTE network.

This phone, the S960L, originally was offered in BOTH Pebble Blue and White.

The other version of the SIII (S3) is the S968C which uses the Verizon native network. It will be limited to 3G internet/data speeds and will NOT have access to Verizon's 4G LTE network.

The S968C was also offered initially in BOTH White and Pebble Blue.

BE CAREFUL WHEN ORDERING SIII SO THAT YOU KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE TWO VERSIONS AND WHICH OF THE FOUR PHONES YOU WANT TO ORDER. TAKE CAUTION IN NOTING THE MODEL NUMBERS.

The Verizon version will have the numbers "968" embedded somewhere within the model number.

The Sprint version will have the numbers "960" embedded somewhere within the model number.

Once you determine the model you want to purchase, then you can choose the color ...either White or Pebble Blue.

Straight Talk originally offered four (4) separate Samsung Galaxy SIII phones. Some may be out of stock at this time, some are currently available, like this one which is the S960L that uses the Sprint native network and is a true 4G LTE phone.

Here are the four phones:

1. The S960L using the Sprint native network in Pebble Blue (color) and is a true 4G LTE phone. It will have very fast internet speeds if you are in a Sprint LTE coverage area. It is the phone featured on THIS page.

2. The S960L using the Sprint native network in White (color) and is a true 4G LTE phone. It will have very fast internet speeds if you are in a Sprint LTE coverage area.

3. The S968C using the Verizon native network in Pebble Blue (color) and is limited to 3G data speeds with no access to Verizon's 4G LTE network.

4. The S968C using the Verizon native network in White (color) and is limited to 3G data speeds with no access to Verizon's 4G LTE network.

The phones will essentially be identical (same features) with the exception of the color and the network they use and currently are selling for the same price.

Again, this particular phone uses Sprint. Other TracFone SIIIs may use other networks, including AT&T but if you order this one, which is model S960L, it will use Sprint with 4G LTE.

Make sure you have strong Sprint coverage if ordering this phone. As most know, Sprint has a less extensive coverage footprint than either AT&T or Verizon and will have spotty coverage in rural areas, especially out in the western states.

The Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy S II (model S959G) is on AT&T but this S III is on Sprint.

The PARTICULAR phone sold by Straight Talk uses the Sprint native network ...no roaming.

Make sure you have good Sprint coverage in the areas where you plan to use the phone. As you may know, Sprint has a smaller coverage footprint than either Verizon or AT&T and has spotty coverage in a lot of rural areas.

This phone should be great if you are in an areas that has Sprint 4G LTE coverage as it is a true 4G LTE phone and data speeds will be really fast in those areas. Sprint is rolling out 4G LTE quickly and contends that they will have 4G LTE in all their 3G areas by the end of 2014. That may be optimistic, however.

Here is the Sprint native coverage map showing both voice and 3G/4G coverage (copy-and-paste):

http://coverage.sprint.com/mycoverage.jsp?id=BO543STC

Not all LTE areas are shown yet, however. Disregard 4G Wimax as it is applicable to this phone (and it is slower).

Wow, nice catch. I try to keep on top of the specs on this phone but that one got by me.

This phone will have the Android 4.1 JellyBean. I'm not sure why they've haven't corrected that.

You can verify that it will have 4.1 JellyBean by going to Samsung's spec page for this particular phone (copy-and-paste):

http://www.samsung.com/us/mobile/cell-phones/SCH-S960RWBTFN

...or the User Manual for this exact phone on page 33:

I don't understand.... If it's CDMA it should be Verizon. GSM phones use Sprint/AT&T.... So I'm wondering which towers too. Guessing not Verizon because it's saying it doesn't work in my zip code (13357) and we have much better coverage with Verizon towers. Hope they clarify this tho!
