This machine is not running Linux; it is running only Chrome OS. In order to download Minecraft, you would need to dual-boot the machine with Linux, and run Linux and Chrome OS side-by-side. If you don't already know how to do this, there are many instructional articles across the web that will take you through a step-by-step process using either Crouton or CrUbantu. Minecraft is a closed-source app, and therefore will run on the Acer chromebook using Linux, but not on the Samsung (Acer has an Intel processor, but the Samsung has an ARM processor). ARM is more limited, and will not support a closed-source app.

Does not have Word, but Google Docs works very well for basic word processing, however, there is no File Save selection, use the Download As instead, which allows you to save in a variety of formats such as RTF, PDF, plain text (TXT) or MS Word docx (needs also doc format, like with older versions of Word, IMHO).
I save files on a thumb drive rather than in the 'cloud' (Google Drive)
and works fine for me.

Question

How do you tolerate the small font size?

since the screen is very small, the font sizes are small too. i checked out the samsung and acer models and found them a little hard to read (i'm middle aged but want to buy one for my elderly parents). i know you can adjust font size in the settings, however you cannot save these settings. once you power off the computer, it defaults back to tiny fonts.

On the Acer chromebook, there are a couple of font adjustments I failed to mention. There is a "Customize Fonts" button next to the font size button in the Advanced Settings menu. If you click on it, you will see different styles of fonts available, as well as slider bars that adjust font sizes anywhere from tiny to huge. Play with those slider bars until you find a font size that meets your needs. You may be able to find a larger font under this custom menu. Also, there is a "Page Zoom" button in the Settings menu whereby you can make the page bigger than 100%. Naturally, that magnifies the text. So technically, there are 4 different fields that will customize font sizes: the "Font Size" button, the "Customize Fonts" button, and the "Enable Magnification" function in the Accessibility section, and the "Page Zoom" under Web Content in Settings.

Just want to add: If you feel an 11.6 inch screen is too small for your parents to manage, I would consider the 14 inch HP Chromebook. Downside is that it is priced higher. Another pick for a budget PC is the 15.6 Toshiba Satellite currently a "special buy" on Walmart.com. The downside of the Toshiba is that it is a conventional PC that comes with the burdens of Windows 8.

That is incorrect. The font settings DO save, and stay saved. It does not default back. You must be signed into an active account in order to save settings. Go to "Settings", then to " Show Advanced Settings", then to "Web Content", and chose any sized font you wish. I have mine saved as "Extra Large". If that is not big enough for your needs, you can also enable the "Screen Magnifier" function in the "Accessibility" section. If you enable the screen magnifier, you can magnify a page by pressing "ctrl + alt" and simply scrolling two fingers up or down on the track pad.

it surfs the net very well, so job searching on the net would work fine. I have had mine 2 months and I love it. they are on sale right now on some web sites. I say grab one. but it is not a pc so you should not expect it to do everything a pc does. but again for 160 bucks right now you cannot beat it for web surfing and watching videos.

The Chromebook does not currently have Skype as an available app. The Chromebook can surf the web just as effective as other computers so job searching could be performed on the Chromebook. We would recommend reading more about the chromebook to learn more about the product and determine if it is what you are looking for.
