Yes. Once you connect to WiFi you get a prompt to upgrade to 4.4.2 (kitkat) and it does so fast and easy.

It does this upon starting up the device. When I hooked mine up a week or so before Christmas to get it ready for my daughter. As soon as I hooked up the WiFi, it went through a system update which included KitKat.

It doesn't have a phone number. I am sure you can use Skype though.

No, this is not a phone.
In order to mimic your phone you'd need an app that does that.

You can however send and receive Skype calls. It actually does that really well.

Not on this one. You can purchase this same model but with mobile service. You must find a listing that indicates it is for mobile though. This one is for WiFi only.

With the TextNow app you can text and send and receive phone calls for free when you accumulate minutes by watching video trailers and you can pay for extra minutes. You need to be by WiFi though.

With the Wi-Fi version it would require an internet connection and several apps and services as a workaround. With the 3G version it might be possible with simply Google Voice or a similar app and the phone number from your cell phone. I have only tried with the Wi-Fi version.

It does not have a flash, so photos are kinda lame. But it has a camera on the front and the back. If you were outside and took a picture I am sure it would be ok provided it were daytime.

answer 3
for taking pictures this tablet (next generation 2013 Nexus7) is not bad. I wouldn't rate it excellent but I would say it's definitely good. You can also upload a free cartoon camera app that is quite fun. But I would not use this as my go to camera. Also, this has both a front and a rear facing camera which makes it very flexible when taking pictures.
answered 1 year, 3 months ago
By
LisaReviews
answer 4
Nothing special for photos. But my guess is that if you are using this for a camera you are not a professional as this would be sacrilege. I think for the in the moment area, this serves it's purpose.

however, I am not a pro either and do not try to diagnose the picture for flaws. There is no flash though, so low light may not be all that great.

answer 5
Its not the best but its not the worst. You could compare it to any 5MP camera phone but definitely not the iPhone or Lumia 41MP. Although it does have panoramic and 360 camera shots its just a tablet and works great for things like Skype.

answer 6
While tablet cameras are usually not as good as the high end phones, the 5MP camera on the Nexus 7 has been excellent for use at work and home to document my activities and family... color well saturated, accurate color reproduction, sharp focus.... a very good tablet camera!

It comes with the standard manufacturers one year warranty. Things like defect in product or workmanship. It will not cover accidental drops, spills or breaks. That is what an protection plan is for, which is what I would recommend and why I use Walmart. They have for the most part good service with some of the best prices.

answer 2
Yes you can convert speech to text when sending an email. There is a speech recognition app preloaded on the tablet. When you are in a window composing an email (or basically anywhere you type like a facebook post or a browser URL field for that matter) you will find a little microphone icon either on the keyboard or in search bar. You tap it and it actually does a really good job majority of time in capturing speech accurately. I just dictated this part of my post actually so you can see its really quite good hope this helps.

They will ask you for a Google account. If you do not have one, you will have to create one. If you are familiar with Android devices and use them. You log in with that account.

If you have never used Android software before then it can be a bit daunting. However if you have any ability to use computers then you will quickly figure it out and there is tons of how to do advice on line.

This was how I found out how to set up multiple user profiles.

sadly there is no manual for any modern tablets. Think in 3 phases:
1. how to use hardware (Power button etc this is learned via a tutorial on the device)
2. how to use the os (play with it)
3. what can I do with it (Use your imagination then start reading online and figure out how to get it done.
