10 is stock but 25 round magazines are yet still available. I recommend genuine Ruger. They come with metal shell retainers and locking pins. On many aftermarket ones these critical part are just plastic.

10 rounds in the included package. you can get after market mags that hold 10, 20, 25, 27, 30, 50, 100 and 150 rounds.

10 round rotary magazine is standard. You can also get a Ruger branded BX-25 that will hold 25rds and there are aftermarket mags for 10,25,30, 50 and even more in banana or tear drop drum type mags. The 25 rounds are pretty common bu Butler Creek in the Hot Lips (Plastic) version, or the Steel Lips versions. Those are fairly good. Not much experience with Eagle brand 30rd mags, but I've heard, not all that.

The Ruger 10/22 holds only 1 round at a time, in the chamber. However the magazines hold either 5 or 10 rounds (legal maximum in NY.) To the best of my knowledge the Ruger 10/22 (new) still comes with one 10-round magazine.

There are several mags that can be bought for this same gun ranging from the 10 round rotary mag that comes with it to a 100 round drum mag. Stick mags come in 10 round, 20, round, 25rnd, 30 rnd, and a 50 round double stack mag is still available if you check on the internet but be careful about mag capacities for your state.

The mag holds 10 rounds plus one in the chamber for a total of 11 rounds.

I like to only have the magazine loaded without a round in the chamber...safer, so 10 shots.

The standard Ruger 10-22 magazines are designed for 22 LR (Long Rifle) shells. You could individually hand load shorts one at a time, but why bother? The shorts are designed for small handguns and not rifles. Because the longs are more popular, many more of them are produced so the cost is very low. Often the LR is the most inexpensive round bar none. The last box of longs I bought worked out to less them 5 cents per round.

answer 6
Semi-automatics generally need the punch-back recoil of the Long Rifle loaded round to slap the bolt back, extract, and come back to peel a new round off the magazine stack. Longs, Shorts (still lethal...just ask anyone "back in the day" who worked with Office of Naval Intel), and smaller barn-varmint loads like BB caps, CB caps, and such can't punch the slide back. If you want .22 magnum, you'll need to buy that specific rifle. For safety reasons #Thank any deity you worship#, .22 LRs and .22 Magnums don't fit together. The .22 magnum rifle/carbine won't shoot a .22 LR...safely. If you want variety, get a bolt action .22 Long Rifle single shot or revolver. There MAY be bolt actions with magazines designed to accept various .22 sized rounds. Winchester made a semi-auto decades ago that fired .22 LR AND longs or shorts by turning a knob with vent slits to release enough blast pressure to weaken the recoil spring for the smaller round. It was for hunting small game AND taking out rats and other creatures around your poultry sheds and barns. Ranchers I knew liked the rifle due to its longer 22"-24" gallery length target barrel. Very accurate for rabbits and squirrel hunting.

No problem. It comes with a standard rail for secure and easy mounting. Many others I have seen have 4 x 30 mm scopes added, but I attached a better 3-9 x 40 mm on mine. It took about 5 minutes. If you want a massive 50 mm sight, the stock rear gun sight may have to be removed.

answer 6
Yes you can. Either with the rail that comes with it for a cheap BB gun type scope, or you can get an after market Weaver type rail for it. I myself, have 3 of these rifles in different configurations. Rather than use the rail, I use Weaver See Thru scope rings so I can set the iron sights for short distance and the scope for longer distance. The rings also allow for a much better 1in tube scope. I've also got one of them fitted with Leupold See Thru Scope Rings. I know for a fact you can get the Weavers in Black or Silver, so if you get Stainless model and a Silver scope... Options are thru the roof on a 10/22. Every gun enthusiest should have a Ruger 10/22. At least one.

Yes, you can scope your 10/22.
It is accurate without a scope but for more distance performance a scope does wonders.
It's best to have the shop where you buy the scope install it also.

Tom,
Just about any way one can fit a scope on a large hunting rifle will work on this model Ruger. It is, by far, the most popular varmint-apocalytic zombie killer-poor man's sniper-scout-survival rifle on the planet. Don't take my word for it. Get onto Youtube and type "Ruger 10-22 scope mounting" in the search and you'll be in "Plinker/Survivalist Heaven." Rings, Picatinny, Scout Red Dot, Williams "Olympic" peep sights... all can be fitted on this jewel. Have a blast!

Actually ky52 is correct. the term "rifle" is used generically on this page. However, the 10/22 CARBINE has either a 16.5" barrel or 18.5". The 10/22 RIFLE has the 22" barrel. In Ruger's terminology, the RIFLE is actually a model type. Walmart is selling the CARBINE model here. #capitals are to emphasize the model name, not shouting#. The only physical difference are the lengths. Look up Ruger carbine vs rifle on google to see how they differ #if at all# in accuracy.

ky52, Your wrong. The Ruger 10/22 Carbine can be bought with either a 16.5 barrel or 18.5 or the 22" barrel. I know my kids have all three. All can be interchanged with same stock. Quickest way is to simply take a small tape measure with you and measure from the end of the breach to the tip of the barrel.

The Carbine Ruger 10/22 comes with a 10 round rotary magazine that works like a charm. The great news is that Ruger has a new BX-25 (25 round ) magazine that works with all its 10/22s. I would customize the Walmart 10/22 and put a TAPCO Intrafuse stock on it. It is the best Run&Gun that will last. Both the Ruger 10/22 rifle and 22LR ammo is currently hard to find.....if you find some ....get it. I got two.

I own a couple of these excellent little rifles! According to the Ruger 10/22 Manual, you may shoot any "Long Rifle Rimfire Ammo", including "hyper velocity" ammo, HOWEVER, it specifically says "DO NOT SHOOT STINGER AMMO" in the "Target" or "Tactical" models because of a case length issue.

It does not mention subsonic ammo specifically, but the worse that could happen with subsonic ammo is that it fails to eject/cycle. If you were going to shoot subsonic on a regular basis, you could replace the spring with one that has the appropriate tension.

It does mention .22 short, etc., and several bullet shapes that are NOT recommended.

Birch !!! Older 10/22's came in Walnut. You can still find Walnut stocks online, but they are not cheap. Sky is the limit as to what you can use for a good stock. Even the synthetic in black is good. I wouldn't let the wood type keep you from getting a 10/22. The Birch is strong and durable too. Just not as pretty as other types of wood. You can also duracoat the birch to change the color or even put a camo pattern on it if you damage the finish and want to do something else with it. Just get one.

The standard 10/22 is "hardwood". The finish is not furniture grade but is certainly functional. The Sporter model has a walnut stock and has a very nice finish but of course costs a little more. The synthetic stock is a polymer that is somewhat more crude looking, but with the stainless barrel and action finish is weather resistant. There are also laminate stock versions out there that have various colorations. Those, I don't think, are sold at Walmart.

I just purchased two Ruger 10/22 and had to fill out a back ground check form at the store. In GA, I had to show proof of state residency ( drivers lic, CCW lic, bill in your name and address....) Photo ID if not used for residency. Long Rifles can have lower age requirement of 18yo, than pistols at 21yo. The problem with ammo is 22LR can be use in both rifle and pistols. Handgun ammo cannot be sold to shooters under 21yo. Call your Walmart firearms associate for further details.

Then I could buy it, a Ruger 10-22 Carbine Rifle. But, I couldn't carry it out the door. One of the store managers had to carry it to, and out the door for me, then I could have it to take to my car.
