It says "Black Friday Only". It is $29 IN STORE ONLY on November 28th from 8pm to 9pm and is guaranteed in stock (meaning, if it runs out of stock during that hour that they will have it shipped to store for you and you will still get it at that price).

Question

Is this Samsung Galaxy Centura S738C listed for $29.00 the same as one listed for $99.99?

The phone listed for $29.00 is model no. STSAS738CPWPAN and in the Specifications section says the service carrier is Verizon. The phone listed for $99.99 show it's model no. as S378C and service carrier is Straight Talk. I just want to make sure this is the same phone, and that it is not a refurbished one. Does anyone know if the different model #'s mean anything? Thank you for your help. Also shipping weight is different 0.8 for $29.00 and 1.5 for the $99.99. The product in inches for the $29.00 6.0 x 1.75 x 9.2 and for the $99.99 it is 4.44 x 2.4 x 0.45.......confused!!

Hi Kel. It is confusing as they have listed both. Many in my family have this model of phone. a few at the $99 price and few at the $29 price from this week. This phone was sold in the stores Thanksgiving night for a 2 hour deal for $29. With Cyber Monday (looks like week now) it is $29. We have seen no difference whatsoever to make us believe it is a different phone. As far as the networks. There is no Straight talk network. All of these phones are made by the same company that makes the Trac fone. Straight Talk can offer the cheap service because it does not own any towers. Different phones operate on different networks. An example on this one on the front of the box in the lower left corner I believe it says CDMA-V. CDMA is the type of network and V is for Verizon towers it uses. It does not use a SIM card. I use an LG-L40G. Mine said GSM-A. GSM is the network and it uses AT&T towers. GSM phones do use a SIM card. Best of luck. Verizon does not suit my personal needs anymore. If it does yours this is an AWESOME deal. Do not let this get away. This phone is worth way more than $29

I called Corperate and they told me that theyre not really sure what the difference is but they did tell me that it might be that one is a smartphone and one is not (which doesnt really help considering that they seem alike.) I guess the best way to find out is to wait until it comes in and see whats in the box. There is a shred of light however they told me that if its not what Im looking for then all I would need to do is just take it to my local walmart store and they would refund me the money as long as I had proof of purchase...so I guess its just a waiting game. Good Luck to all who purchase this phone!

Kel, you've done your research!

I've been wondering about this for a few days now wondering if there is some type of misprint or if they will take this page down because it is a mistake.

I hadn't done as much nitpicking as you have so I kept thinking that they are the exact same phone but now that you've brought to light that there are some subtle differences, I'm not so sure. I answered a few inquiries below that this is the exact same phone being sold for $99.88 as the general model numbers are actually the same and they seem to have the exact same features. I'm now leaning toward this page being a mistake.

One of the reasons I am thinking it's a mistake because Walmart has the phone advertised in their Sunday ad in the area I'm in as "IN STORE ONLY ...Valid Dec 1 - Dec 7, $99.88"

This leads me to ask "why would they be selling the exact same phone online for $29 then?"

Let's see if anybody in authority answers ...lol

I don't think I know what a "valcher" is. Do you mean a service card? ...or did you purchase this phone and just want instructions on how to activate it?

No matter, I'll assume you bought this phone on Black Friday, have it currently in your possession, and now want to activate it.

When you open the box, you will see what is referred to as an "Activation Card." It will give you step by step instructions on how to activate the phone as well as the numbers you will need for activation (MEID or serial number, etc.).

You will need to purchase service (if you haven't already done so) either before or during activation. Buy the $45 Unlimited service to start out with so you can test the service. You don't want to pay for service too far in advance when you first activate as just in case it doesn't work out and you don't want to use the phone, you will not have paid for service you will never use (no refunds on service cards).

If you look closely before ordering your phone the 29 dollar centura says "in stock" available as soon as ????(date in future)

as for the 99 dollar phone it says "in stock" Available for pick up as soon as today (todays date)

there is no difference between the two other than that phone that is 99 dollars if available for pick up today it would be the same as going in to your local walmart store and buying it your self......since a Walmart Employee will get a notification to "pick you item" off the shelf ...and you will get a notification in a few hours that it is ready for pick up....

other than that there is no difference.

I haven't heard of the Galaxy Century.

Edited to add: I think I see what you may be referring to. There is another page that has what appears to be this exact same phone for $99.99.

I can't see any difference. It appears to me to be the same phone with identical features and the exact same model number.

This phone is a bargain for $29. I sure hope that those who might be interested in ordering the $99.99 phone will see this page before ordering.

Hi SJ. While there is no difference in your service quality, Many apps from the Google Play store require Android 4.0 and higher. No worries with this phone. There are many different settings etc.

No disrespect at all to LARS but the OS (operating system) really doesn't have a direct relationship with the type of coverage you will receive nor does it determine what network the phone will use.

The ICS OS is a fairly significant upgrade when comparing it with the 2.3 Gingerbread OS. If possible, try to select a phone with the most upgraded OS.

Here's a video that will explain some of the differences:

The easiest way to do it is to go on-line @ straighttalk.com and set it up there. I believe you can also do it through the 1-800 number on the back of any service card. I do this sometimes to re-new monthly service and that only takes about 3 minutes. It prompts you for everything for that part of it. I am sure it does the same thing for initial set up. Good luck!

Amy, phones that Straight Talk sells are required to use Straight Talk plans. So, unfortunately, the answer is no, you can't transfer your Sprint plan to this phone.

Try to hang on until your contract is up with Sprint and then switch to Straight Talk. It may not be your phone that is not working that good but rather the network, Sprint, is not suited for your location. When you switch to Straight Talk, you may want to consider choosing a phone that uses Verizon such as this one (Samsung Galaxy Centura S738C) but there are many more that use Verizon too.
