This particular phone with the model number S968C will be 3G only on the Verizon native network.

If still available, Straight Talk is selling another version of the SIII, which is 4G LTE but will use the Sprint native network. The model number for that version is S960L.

They both have essentially the same features and are offered at the same price but one is 3G only on Verizon and the other is 4G LTE capable but on Sprint.

Yes, currently, white is the only color available for the SIII that uses Verizon. They are out of stock for the Pebble Blue color phone.

However, be careful as the Sprint version of the SIII in White is also currently available.

If you order the phone that is featured on THIS page, it will be the Verizon version.

The way you can tell is that the Verizon version will have the numbers "968" embedded somewhere in the Walmart model number designation (the Samsung model designation is S968C).

The Sprint version will have the numbers "960" embedded somewhere in the Walmart model number designation (as the Sprint version will have the Samsung designation of S960L).

If you look below on this page, you will see a section titled "Specifications" and if you look under that heading, you will see "Model No.:" ...do you see the "968" inside that number?

The answer should be "yes." Therefore, the phone on this page is the Verizon version of the SIII.

If you order the phone on THIS page, it will be the SIII that uses Verizon. It will be limited to 3G data speeds and will NOT have access to Verizon's 4G LTE network.

The model number of the Verizon version of the Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy SIII is SCH S968C so if you see "968" embedded anywhere in the model number, it will be the Verizon version.

The Sprint version has the model number of SCH S960L and will be a true 4G LTE phone. It will have very fast data/internet speeds if in a Sprint LTE coverage area. If you see "960" embedded in the Walmart model number for the Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy SIII, it will be the Sprint version.

ANYONE ORDERING A STRAIGHT TALK SIII, BE SURE TO NOTE THE MODEL NUMBER ON THE PAGE IN WHICH YOU ARE ORDERING THE PHONE TO MAKE SURE YOU WILL GET THE VERSION YOU DESIRE.

Kat, if you order the phone on this page, it will use the Verizon native network but will be limited to 3G data speeds with no access to Verizon's 4G LTE network. It will use Verizon no matter where you are in the U.S.

Currently (as I write this) Walmart is running a special offer where they are giving a $50 gift card with the purchase of the White S968C, the Verizon version, which is essentially a $50 price reduction for the phone offered on this page. Copy-and-paste for the special bundle:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-w-Bonus-50-Walmart-Gift-Card-Value-Bundle/35457224

There is also a Sprint version of this phone which is a true 4G LTE device but in your area, Sprint does not yet have 4G LTE.

The phone featured on THIS particular page uses the Verizon native network (no roaming). It does not have access to Verizon's 4G LTE network. It will be limited to 3G data speeds.

Straight Talk offers two versions of the SIII. This one, and a Sprint version which is a true 4G LTE phone. Straight Talk does not sell an AT&T version but you can purchase an unlocked GSM SIII from Walmart and then buy a SIM card from Straight Talk which uses AT&T or T-Mobile, your choice; one or the other.

Therefore, you have options on what network you want to use with an SIII on Straight Talk.

Verizon and AT&T will have the most comprehensive coverage if you travel a lot in the U.S. Keep in mind, however, there are some areas that do not have Verizon native service and one big one is Alaska ...no Verizon native coverage in Alaska.

I also travel a lot and have a Straight Talk phone that uses AT&T have found it has ubiquitous coverage in the places I travel. I also have a Verizon Mifi that can be used for wifi calls if I find myself in an area with no AT&T coverage so I'm pretty much covered no matter where I go. Both AT&T and Verizon will have good coverage in large metro areas ...and so will Sprint and T-Mobile for that matter but in rural areas, Verizon and AT&T are best.

Again, the phone featured on THIS page will use Verizon (native coverage only, no roaming).

You will have to purchase your first month with the purchase of your phone. You do not get a free month with your purchase of the phone. There are a couple different unlimited plans to choose from. But if you are concerned that the Samsung Galaxy S3 won't have the same plans as the other Straight Talk phones, you have to worry no longer. All their phones can get the same, individually purchased plans from Straight Talk. What's more is that you can get the $45 unlimited plan one month and go to the $60 plan the next. That's the glory of pay-as-you-go phones.

answer 4
charlene, the Straight Talk Samsung Galaxy SIII does not come with service. You will have to purchase that separately and have service covered for at least 30-days in advance in order to keep the phone's cellular features functional.

You can purchase the initial 30-days directly from Straight Talk when you activate the phone with a credit or debit card. Or you can purchase a $45 Unlimited Plan card at Walmart. If you purchase service from Walmart, you will have to transfer a code to Straight Talk at activation. That's why I personally recommend that you purchase the initial 30-days of service directly from Straight Talk at the time of activation as there is less hassle without the need to transfer a code. After the initial 30-days, you can decide which method you want to use. I also recommend that you do not purchase more than 30-days of service initially until you determine that Straight Talk service is right for you as any service you purchase is non-refundable.

You have many options once you find that Straight Talk service is right for you as you can purchase service in advance in blocks of 90-, 180-, or 365-days or have Straight Talk put you on Auto-refill where they will automatically charge your credit or debit card each month for service in advance.

Actually, both the Verizon and the Sprint versions have model numbers that start in "S" ...the Verizon version being SCH-S968C or S968C and the Sprint version being SCH-S960L or S960L.

jj, just make sure when you are ready to order to pay attention to the model number sequence.

If you see the numbers "968" anywhere within the model number sequence, it will be the Verizon version.

If you see the numbers "960" anywhere within the model number sequence, it will be the Sprint version.

If you desire the Sprint version, go to the link I gave in my previous post. If you want the Verizon version, you can order the phone featured on THIS page.

jj, Straight Talk sells two versions (in two colors) of the Samsung Galaxy SIII. The one featured on THIS page is the Verizon version in Marble White. Its model number is S968C and will use the Verizon native voice and 3G network (no roaming). It will NOT have access to Verizon's 4G LTE network.

The other version is the S960L which uses the Sprint native network. It is a true 4G LTE phone and will have very fast internet/data speeds if used in a Sprint LTE coverage area.

The S960L, the Sprint version, is available at Walmart for the same price in the Pebble Blue color (the Marble White color seems to be out of stock) and can be ordered from this page (copy-and-paste):

Chuchu, if you're still here and if you have not yet purchased that interim phone, the Samsung Galaxy Ace that I mentioned in my previous post has just become even a better deal.

I just noticed that Walmart is selling it now for $149.88 with a $50 Walmart gift card included which essentially brings the price down to $99.88 !!

This is an EXCELLENT deal for a phone with specs such as the S765C has. And it is confirmed that it does use the Verizon network.

I spoke too soon in my post below. There is a new Verizon (or I "think" its on Verizon) phone that Straight Talk is introducing and is now available at Walmart online.

It's the Samsung Galaxy Ace which has excellent specs for a $150-phone. It has an Android 4.3 JellyBean OS, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and a front camera.

This might be a good interim phone for you until you can purchase either a S4 or S5.

Straight Talk has already offered the S4 and it wasn't offered for too long a period of time. I'm not so sure that Straight Talk will offer the Galaxy S4 again or not. When the were selling it, it used the T-Mobile network ...I'm assuming you want a phone that uses Verizon? My hunch is that ST will not sell it again but I don't have inside knowledge ...it's just my hunch.

Read about Straight Talk's S4 here (copy-and-paste):

http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2013/11/straight-talk-samsung-galaxy-s4-now.html

I'm not sure what the next new Straight Talk phone that uses Verizon will be. Straight Talk has just recently introduced the Moto G running on T-Mobile and the Alcatel OneTouch Sonic 4G LTE running on AT&T. It would have been nice to see one of them, especially the Moto G, running on Verizon but no dice. There haven't been any new Straight Talk Verizon phones introduced for awhile now so perhaps they are moving away from Verizon? ...not sure.

If you're not adamant about having a Straight Talk phone that uses Verizon, there are some nice choices for Straight Talk phones using GSM ...T-Mobile and AT&T. I'm one who likes the AT&T network so I'm personally happy to see all the new alternatives Straight Talk is offering, plus all the unlocked GSM phones that we can use with Straight Talk. Can't talk you into a GSM phone?

Hi Kat with a C,

A locked phone simply means that your phone is exclusive to that carrier and only to that carrier. An UNlocked phone means, you can use this phone on almost all of the networks such as AT&T, Sprint Verizon, Metro PCS and so forth, but will require registration and a network code that you can purchase from them.

unlocked phone is what you need. If you want to switch over with your existing phone then you would need to have your phone unlocked unless it's already done. Locked phones means it's still locked into the service it is right now. I'm not sure about CDMA phones but that's what you have to do with phones that need sim cards.

answer 4
A locked phone is one that is "locked" to a particular provider or carrier. It normally is intended to be used with one provider only and can't be "easily" switched from provider to provider without "unlocking." The phones Straight Talk sells (both GSM and CDMA) can be considered "locked" to Straight Talk service and you agree to use it on the network carrier that is predetermined by Straight Talk.

The particular phone on THIS page, the Samsung Galaxy SIII S968C, is a CDMA phone that uses Verizon "native" network and and can be considered "locked" to Straight Talk service. By purchasing this phone, you agree to use it as configured.

An unlocked new phone pertaining to Straight Talk service is generally a GSM phone that can accept a SIM card. Using it at Straight Talk would require it to be used with either the AT&T network or the T-Mobile network. Walmart carries an extensive offering of unlocked GSM phones that can be used at Straight Talk. Once purchasing the new unlocked GSM phone, you then will have to purchase a SIM card from Straight Talk (or another provider if not using Straight Talk) for it to function as intended.
