Puffer, this particular phone (the one on THIS page), the S968C, will use the Verizon Wireless voice and 3G (EVDO Rev. A) network with NO access to Verizon's 4G LTE network.

It is configured strictly for CDMA using Verizon and will not use AT&T towers at all.

BOTH versions of the SIII that Straight Talk sells through Walmart are CDMA ...one on Sprint, the other on Verizon.

This one is the Verizon version and is limited to 3G data speeds. To "make sure" you are ordering the Verizon version, check to see that your order has "968" embedded somewhere in the model number (as has been pointed out for the model number of this phone).

If you want to save $50, order THIS phone (the Verizon version in White) from the link provided in my initial post at the bottom of this thread.

Put in zip code 73949.

You have to get a CDMA type of phone. This is stated on the packaging of the phones in the store. Or, if you order off the web, the one that is on sale now for $349, that is a CDMA phone - Model No.: STSAS968CWTPWP.

alli, the simplest way to determine which version of the SIII you are ordering is this:

If you see "968" in the model number sequence, it is the Verizon version (which has the Samsung designation of SCH S968C). It will be limited to Verizon's 3G data network and will not have access to their 4G LTE network. If you order the phone on THIS page, it will be the Verizon version. Look below on this page under "Specifications" and you will see the model number listed as "STSAS968CWTPWP" ...notice the "968" embedded in that model number?

The Sprint version of the SIII will have "960" somewhere in its model number sequence. The Sprint version (or Samsung designation SCH S960L) will be a true 4G LTE phone and will have very fast internet speeds when in a Sprint LTE coverage area.

Currently (as I write this) Walmart is running a special offer where they are giving a $50 gift card with the purchase of the White S968C, the Verizon version, which is essentially a $50 price reduction for the phone offered on this page. Copy-and-paste for the special bundle:

answer 2
1. The color of the phone has nothing to do with the network it will use.

2. Straight Talk does NOT currently sell a Samsung Galaxy SIII that uses the AT&T network ...no matter what color it is.

3. The phone featured on this page (the S968C) will use the Verizon native network and it can't be changed. If you purchase THIS phone, it will be on Verizon whether you like it or not. It will be limited to 3G and will not have access to Verizon's 4G LTE network.

4. Again, THIS phone is NOT capable of accessing the Verizon 4G LTE network.

5. Same rules apply ...Straight Talk has the ability to throttle your data speed once 2.5 GB is reached. It will be reset back to "high speed" (in this case, 3G speeds) once your current 30-day cycle is over and you add additional service.

No, neither of the SIII phones Straight Talk sells through Walmart will use AT&T. The one on THIS page (the S968C) will use Verizon. The other version, the S960L, will use Sprint. There is nothing you can do to change that.

The phone featured on THIS page, the S968C, will be limited to 3G and will not have access to Verizon's 4G LTE network.

The S960L, using Sprint, will be a true 4G LTE phone. It will have extremely fast internet/data speeds when located in a Sprint LTE coverage area. However, as we all know, the Sprint LTE network does not have as extensive a coverage footprint as either Verizon or AT&T.

If you are in an area of Sprint LTE coverage, you can order the S960L here (copy-and-paste):

White:

Pebble Blue:

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-Samsung-Galaxy-S3-Pre-Paid-Smartphone/23573710

Any phone used with one of the Straight Talk Unlimited Plans (and the SIII requires one of the Unlimited Plans), will be under the 2.5GB soft cap rules. Or, they have the right to throttle data speeds once that threshold is reached ...it doesn't necessarily mean that it will happen but they have the right to do so.

The phone featured on THIS particular page uses the Verizon native network (no roaming). It does not have access to Verizon's 4G LTE network. It will be limited to 3G data speeds.

Straight Talk offers two versions of the SIII. This one, and a Sprint version which is a true 4G LTE phone. Straight Talk does not sell an AT&T version but you can purchase an unlocked GSM SIII from Walmart and then buy a SIM card from Straight Talk which uses AT&T or T-Mobile, your choice; one or the other.

Therefore, you have options on what network you want to use with an SIII on Straight Talk.

Verizon and AT&T will have the most comprehensive coverage if you travel a lot in the U.S. Keep in mind, however, there are some areas that do not have Verizon native service and one big one is Alaska ...no Verizon native coverage in Alaska.

I also travel a lot and have a Straight Talk phone that uses AT&T have found it has ubiquitous coverage in the places I travel. I also have a Verizon Mifi that can be used for wifi calls if I find myself in an area with no AT&T coverage so I'm pretty much covered no matter where I go. Both AT&T and Verizon will have good coverage in large metro areas ...and so will Sprint and T-Mobile for that matter but in rural areas, Verizon and AT&T are best.

Again, the phone featured on THIS page will use Verizon (native coverage only, no roaming).

I ordered a refurbished G3 from Straight Talk's website. They didn't say that it wouldn't work with Verizon towers. After multiple calls and 3 weeks with terrible service, I discovered that the S970L only works with Sprint towers and that I needed an S968C that works with Verizon towers. In my area it's predominately Verizon with little Sprint service. I had to send it back and I'm currently waiting to get a credit on my charge card. I went to my local Walmart and bought a new one and it's working great now.

they have phones that work on Verizon, ATT you have to request which one. But I would go with a Verizon pre paid plan as Straight talk customer service is the worst. And if you phone ever fails under warranty and they do not have that model in stock the will send a cheaper model in replacemnt

KayKay, there are several different versions of the SIII on Straight Talk each using different carriers/networks. However, the SIII featured on THIS page, the S968C, will in fact use Verizon for voice and 3G data.

This phone will not have access to Verizon's 4G LTE network and will only have "native" Verizon Wireless coverage meaning that the phone will not roam but use only Verizon-owned towers.

You will have to either buy minutes $45 from Wal-Mart and add them to your phone or use the Straight Talk website and set up an account to add minutes to your phone. You can purchase 3, 6, or 12 months at a time but you must use at least the $45 monthly amount to keep your service active.

Sharon, "Prepaid" refers to the service offered by Straight Talk. It means that you are required to prepay for service at least a month in advance as opposed to being under contract and paying for service after you have used it. All Straight Talk phones used on their service are considered "Prepaid." You are also "Prepaying" for the bulk of the cost of the phone you purchase from them.

The big carriers (Verizon, Sprint, AT&T, T-Mobile, etc.) will offer the traditional contracted service where you are locked into a contract for either one or two years. You pay monthly for the previous month of service and usually are offered a free or a heavily discounted phone to use because you are committed to use the service for two years. You will have to pay an Early Termination Fee if breaking the contract and leaving before the two years is up. They also require a credit check before service begins to make sure you are not a "deadbeat" as they want to make sure you will pay each month.

The big carriers also offer Prepaid service.

Additionally, most MVNOs, like Straight Talk are Prepaid providers. There is no contract. No Early Termination Fees, no activation fees, etc. Prepaid providers do not care if your credit is good and don't care if you pay each month as you are paying in advance for service you use and you've also prepaid for the phone (usually the phone is offered at a slight discount but you are paying for the bulk of the phone's cost in advance ...so again, the provider does not care of you do not pay each month as they have the majority of their cost covered).

Chuchu, if you're still here and if you have not yet purchased that interim phone, the Samsung Galaxy Ace that I mentioned in my previous post has just become even a better deal.

I just noticed that Walmart is selling it now for $149.88 with a $50 Walmart gift card included which essentially brings the price down to $99.88 !!

This is an EXCELLENT deal for a phone with specs such as the S765C has. And it is confirmed that it does use the Verizon network.

I spoke too soon in my post below. There is a new Verizon (or I "think" its on Verizon) phone that Straight Talk is introducing and is now available at Walmart online.

It's the Samsung Galaxy Ace which has excellent specs for a $150-phone. It has an Android 4.3 JellyBean OS, a 1.2GHz dual-core processor, and a front camera.

This might be a good interim phone for you until you can purchase either a S4 or S5.

Straight Talk has already offered the S4 and it wasn't offered for too long a period of time. I'm not so sure that Straight Talk will offer the Galaxy S4 again or not. When the were selling it, it used the T-Mobile network ...I'm assuming you want a phone that uses Verizon? My hunch is that ST will not sell it again but I don't have inside knowledge ...it's just my hunch.

Read about Straight Talk's S4 here (copy-and-paste):

http://www.prepaidphonenews.com/2013/11/straight-talk-samsung-galaxy-s4-now.html

I'm not sure what the next new Straight Talk phone that uses Verizon will be. Straight Talk has just recently introduced the Moto G running on T-Mobile and the Alcatel OneTouch Sonic 4G LTE running on AT&T. It would have been nice to see one of them, especially the Moto G, running on Verizon but no dice. There haven't been any new Straight Talk Verizon phones introduced for awhile now so perhaps they are moving away from Verizon? ...not sure.

If you're not adamant about having a Straight Talk phone that uses Verizon, there are some nice choices for Straight Talk phones using GSM ...T-Mobile and AT&T. I'm one who likes the AT&T network so I'm personally happy to see all the new alternatives Straight Talk is offering, plus all the unlocked GSM phones that we can use with Straight Talk. Can't talk you into a GSM phone?

No, there are never any activation fees, re-activation fees, cancellation fees, or any other extraneous fees with Straight Talk.

HOWEVER, you will lose your phone number if you let service lapse more than 30-days. Straight Talk currently does not have any provision to "park" a phone number.

Therefore, if you want to keep your phone number, you will have to use a third-party "park" service which would necessitate porting your number back and forth to that third party to store the number for you for a small fee.

OR

...be assigned a new phone number when you re-activate service.
