Please read just what richardarr states, for he & I are usually very accurate with our answer's plus we usually agree with each other. Always look for his review and/or answer to the question(s), as he's usually right on target. So, copy & past his link which will get you to the mobile wi-fi device you'll need to apply your service card to via straighttalk.com or their toll free # Mobile Hotspot at: 1-877-430-CELL(2355) . I have found their CSR's to be knowledgeable & helpful if you need any added help from straight talk. Plus you can usually find a well versed Walmart employee in their electronic's dept's world-wide.
Straight-talk also has a live human that you can click and chat with if you simply need directions, as this often spell's the step's out and you can save your conversation history with the live operator/CSR application & either refer back to it when needed or simply print out the log of your conversation and use that as future reference if you are uncomfortable saving it to your internet device.

Donna, this service card only works to provide service to the Straight Talk Hotspot. The Hotspot in turn can then provide a wifi signal for your tablet to use.

What you have to do is to first purchase the Hotspot which is currently being sold at Walmart for $79 (copy-and-paste):

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-WiFi-Mobile-HotSpot-3G/30824075

Once you purchase the Hotspot, you then purchase this service card. When you apply the service card to the Hotspot, it will then provide a wifi signal for any device you may have that uses wifi ...i.e., your tablet, smartphone, laptop, desktop, etc.

It is your own personal wifi that can travel with you and provides a wifi connection just like Starbucks or a hotel, etc. would do when you travel. Only with this Hotspot, you have your own personal wifi source.

It will stream ok but your Data card will shrivel up in no time within a few hours at the most. Compare it to the high cost of paying a taxi driver in NYC to go a mile or two. Expensive for what little you mileage you get.

It will work but being limited to 3G speeds, you could experience some pixelization and buffering lags. As you know, 3G is quite a bit slower than 4G LTE. Also, streaming a lot of movies will gobble up bandwidth quickly so if you plan on streaming movies frequently, be prepared to purchase a lot of service cards.

No, it doesn't sound as if that is the way it works. My interpretation is that there is no rollover nor accumulation. You can put cards in reserve but if you redeem one before your current one expires, all remaining data and time will be forfeited. Here is what they have posted at the Straight Talk website; see if you interpret it the same way I have:

"Your ST Hotspot will only operate when your Service is active and You have a positive Service balance in your account. Your "Service End Date" is the last day of your Service period. When You add or refill Services, your Service End Date will be reset to the number of Service days purchased. With each refill of your Service, You will have the option to apply the refill at the moment ("now") or put the amount in your Straight Talk Reserve ("Reserve") (see section 3(c) below for more information about Straight Talk Reserve). Redemptions added to Reserve will be applied when your current service expires. If You redeem early, before the end of your current 30 day plan cycle and You still have remaining days and data balance, You will lose the remaining days and balance You had prior to the redemption. Any unused Service balance(s) that exist at the time You refill your Service or at your Service End date will not carry over or accumulate and automatically expires."

I don't see why not. What this plan does when used with the UMX U240C (which purchase is required) is to provide a "generic" wifi signal. This allows any device that can use wifi to connect to the internet. Therefore, you iPod should detect the wifi signal the U240C is broadcasting and can connect to the internet from that signal.

Question

Can you use this for an iphone 3g?

I wondered if you can use this instead of a phone plan? I use the wifi for everything now and don't have a plan, but when I am not near a wifi hotspot, does this one provide it's own hotspot, like anywhere, that I could connect to? Seems like a cheaper alternative than a plan.

I suppose you could. However, you would need to haul this around with you.

Yes, it will provide a wifi signal for you to use on your iPhone (yes, it's a mifi or wifi hotspot) but wouldn't it be a hassle to carry both with you when you want to get on the internet with your iPhone? It's fine when you want to use it around home but let's say you're at a restaurant and want to look up something on the internet with your iPhone ...you'd have to turn this mifi on and connect to it in order to get on the internet.

For me, I'd rather pay a bit more and have mobile internet on my phone for the convenience.

Oh, and when you asked if it created a wifi hotspot "anywhere" ...I guess the answer would be "not really." You would have to be in an area where there is a Verizon cell signal (within adequate distance of a Verizon cell tower). However, Verizon has what most consider the best coverage of any of the major carriers so you will definitely have coverage in all big and small metro areas but if you were in the middle of nowhere out in the western states --like some of the desert areas in Nevada, for instance-- you may not have a signal to connect to ...but on the other hand, neither would your phone if it's on Verizon.

First, what you will need to purchase in order for this service card to work is the Straight Talk mifi hotspot that is being sold for $79 as this card only provides service to the device that supplies the wifi signal that your laptop will use to connect to the internet.

Here is what you will have to purchase for this card to work (copy-and-paste):

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-WiFi-Mobile-HotSpot-3G/30824075

Once you have purchased both the hotspot and this service card, the hotspot will provide a wifi signal for your Dell laptop to access the internet. It will provide a wifi signal just as your router would or if you were at Starbucks and had access to their wifi ...etc.

No, the hotspot does not need either cable or a phone line. What is DOES need is a strong Verizon Wireless signal. You will need to be an adequate distance from a Verizon Wireless cell tower. The hotspot functions like a cell phone in that it needs a cellular signal in order to provide service or the wifi signal. Therefore you want to make sure you have good Verizon cellular coverage in the area you will be using the hotspot. If you don't have Verizon coverage, it will not work.

This works only with the Straight Talk Hotspot and you first have to purchase the hotspot in order to use the service card featured on this page.

Here is the link for the page to see and order the hotspot ...it is currently selling for $79 at Walmart (copy-and-paste):

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-WiFi-Mobile-HotSpot-3G/30824075

What the hotspot essentially does is to create a wifi signal for you to use with your chosen device whether it be your smartphone, tablet, laptop, desktop, iPad, etc. ...anything that can use wifi. You can have up to five devices connected at once. It's your own personal wifi signal and sometimes called MIFI so you can have internet access with you instead of relying on public or private wifi. This way, you don't have to use the wifi at the hotel, or Starbucks, or the airport, etc., etc.

It works independently from your personal cell phone but DOES use a cellular connection (Verizon Wireless --so you have to be in an area of Verizon cell coverage for this to function).

Will this work on a Nexus7 (2012)...?

This card will not work with anything other than the Straight Talk Mobile Hotspot (copy-and-paste):

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-WiFi-Mobile-HotSpot-3G/30824075

You have to first purchase the Hotspot. Then you would purchase one of the service cards, like this one, to provide service to the hotspot.

Once you have service to the hotspot, it will provide a wifi signal for any device that can use wifi in order to access the internet; including your Nexus 7 ...again, only to access the internet via wifi.

So no, it will not be able to provide service to your Nexus 7 directly. It will only provide a wifi signal for your Nexus 7 to use once you apply this service card to the hotspot.

The hotspot will need a Verizon Wireless signal to work so in order to use the hotspot with this service card, you will need to be an adequate distance from a Verizon cell tower.
