I just checked with Straight Talk and the rep I spoke with told me that they will not expire. It also says something to that effect in the terms of service.

My apologies. I misinterpreted your question.

padreloco is correct. However, I'm not sure how long you can keep an unactivated card before it expires. I'm assuming that it will never expire but I'd check with Straight Talk to make sure.

Yes, the service card will expire in either 30- or 60- days depending on the amount of data you purchase. Here are your choices and when they expire:

1 GB for $15 to be used within 30-days

2 GB for $25 to be used within 30-days

4 GB for $40 to be used within 60-days

5 GB for $50 to be used within 60-days

7 GB for $75 to be used within 60-days

It is a "whichever come first" situation. For example, if you purchase the 7 GB card for $75, even though it says it expires in 60-days, if you use the 7 GB in a week, then the card expires at that point.

Yes, the service cards will expire. Here are the cards that are available and when they expire:

1 GB for $15 to be used within 30-days

2 GB for $25 to be used within 30-days

4 GB for $40 to be used within 60-days

5 GB for $50 to be used within 60-days

7 GB for $75 to be used within 60-days

It's a "whichever comes first" situation. For instance, if you purchase the 7 GB card, even though it will be good for 60-days, if you go through 7 GB in three days, then it expires at that time.

They can be bought right online or in some stores. Make sure you purchase a card that has an amount of data on it. 2GB is $25, 4GB is $40 and 5GB is $50. I did the $50 one because it gives you 60 days to use it before it expires. Hope this helps!

It doesn't go by hours, but by data. There are several levels of data plans, depending on your needs. If you do general browsing but not much downloading, the $40 for 2 months is the best plan to cover your needs. If you watch a lot of videos or movies, a pricier plan would be better.

toontje, it's almost impossible to answer your question accurately.

It all depends on what you are doing during those 5-hours. If you are just intermittently surfing the internet or sending e-mails, then you will use relatively little data.

However, if you are streaming video or transferring large files during that time, you could possibly use a tremendous amount of data.

There are lots of data usage estimators out there on the internet if you do a search. Here's one that is easy to use ...choose "Mobile Hotspot" in the drop-down menu in the upper right corner where it says "Select Your Device" (copy-and-paste):

http://www.uscellular.com/data/data-estimator.html

Or, you can just purchase the $15 card/1GB to start out with and see how much you use and how fast you use it so you can estimate what card you need to buy for future purchases.

you need wi fi on your devices being used with this hot spot. You pay for G's you purchase 1 G is $15 .... what ever amount you need to purchase. It lasts until you run out or 30 days the higher priced are 60days.

Pat, not sure where you heard that service is "free" with a Straight Talk Hotspot. You will be required to choose one of the following plans to be used with this Hotspot:

1 GB for $15 to be used within 30-days

2 GB for $25 to be used within 30-days

4 GB for $40 to be used within 60-days

5 GB for $50 to be used within 60-days

7 GB for $75 to be used within 60-days

It is a whichever-comes-first situation with no roll-over. Example: if you purchase the 4GB plan for $40, service will expire when you have consumed 4 GB ...OR, when 60-days passes, whichever-comes-first.

They are flexible so you do not have to use the same one each time. You can use any one you like whenever you like.

Service is not free. You have to purchase a Straight Talk prepaid data card after you buy the hot spot.

Where did you see that it was free service? Think of it as the same concept as a cell phone - you buy the phone AND pay monthly for the service. Otherwise, you just bought something to stare at.

Yes, again, this device will be supplying a generic wifi signal and will work fine while going down the road in a car. It is working on the same principle as your cell phone in that it is acquiring a cellular signal from a tower but once out of range from a tower, it could drop the connection just as your cell phone would if you travel into an area with no cell service.

Question

regarding mobile spot

So in reading your answer, I take it that the activation never ends it is just the data cards that expire. Is that correct? So I never have to reactivate it, just buy more cards if they have expired? Thanks

There actually is no "one-time activation fee." You never have to pay activation fees of any kind with Straight Talk.

You may have to "re-activate" if you let service lapse and you have a new card to apply (or add service directly through Straight Talk) but it is a very quick and easy process that you can do on the internet (if you have other internet access) or on the phone with a representative.

deb, if I'm understanding your question correctly, no, it has nothing to do with your cell phone. It's not a booster for your cell phone signal nor does it help your cell phone to get a better connection. This device provides a wireless internet connection (WiFi) for your other devices such as a laptop, tablet, smartphone, iPad, etc.

The only relationship it may have to your cell phone is if you want to connect your smartphone to wifi in order to use the internet.

Unfortunately, no. Here are the length of time the cards are good for:

1 GB for $15 to be used within 30-days

2 GB for $25 to be used within 30-days

4 GB for $40 to be used within 60-days

5 GB for $50 to be used within 60-days

7 GB for $75 to be used within 60-days

It will be a "whichever comes first" situation.
