I just checked with Straight Talk and the rep I spoke with told me that they will not expire. It also says something to that effect in the terms of service.

My apologies. I misinterpreted your question.

padreloco is correct. However, I'm not sure how long you can keep an unactivated card before it expires. I'm assuming that it will never expire but I'd check with Straight Talk to make sure.

Yes, the service card will expire in either 30- or 60- days depending on the amount of data you purchase. Here are your choices and when they expire:

1 GB for $15 to be used within 30-days

2 GB for $25 to be used within 30-days

4 GB for $40 to be used within 60-days

5 GB for $50 to be used within 60-days

7 GB for $75 to be used within 60-days

It is a "whichever come first" situation. For example, if you purchase the 7 GB card for $75, even though it says it expires in 60-days, if you use the 7 GB in a week, then the card expires at that point.

Yes, the service cards will expire. Here are the cards that are available and when they expire:

1 GB for $15 to be used within 30-days

2 GB for $25 to be used within 30-days

4 GB for $40 to be used within 60-days

5 GB for $50 to be used within 60-days

7 GB for $75 to be used within 60-days

It's a "whichever comes first" situation. For instance, if you purchase the 7 GB card, even though it will be good for 60-days, if you go through 7 GB in three days, then it expires at that time.

They can be bought right online or in some stores. Make sure you purchase a card that has an amount of data on it. 2GB is $25, 4GB is $40 and 5GB is $50. I did the $50 one because it gives you 60 days to use it before it expires. Hope this helps!

answer 3
Your desktop needs the ability to wirelessly connect to the internet using wifi. You may have one built in but if not, you can either install a PCI adapter or, the simplest way is to use a USB wifi adapter that plugs into one of your USB ports.

Here's an example of a USB adapter ($25.44) but there are others that have the antenna built in too at a variety of prices (copy-and-paste):

http://www.walmart.com/ip/Premiertek-PowerLink-Wireless-802.11b-g-n-USB-2.0-Adapter/16480821?

Again, your PC may already have an adapter installed in a PCI slot if it is a newer desktop model.

I know this won't be much help either but I'll mention it anyway. Some do not realize how much stuff they have running in the background that use the internet to update various programs ...apps on smartphones or if using a laptop or tablet, updating virus programs and other things that update automatically when they detect an internet connection.

An example, one guy I know didn't realize that his laptop was doing a Windows update automatically and it took a tremendous amount of data as his Windows hadn't been updated in awhile. He didn't realize that he had gone through that much data and had to buy more service cards than he expected. Many virus programs automatically update themselves or load definitions when an internet connection is detected in the same manner.

And, as you know, many websites have stuff running on the pages themselves that even if nothing is being done by you have videos or flash programs running, etc.

What I do when using a personal hotspot (I have several) is to not leave them running when not being actively used. Shut the hotspot off entirely when you are finished doing whatever it is you are doing on the internet. Do not walk away with a browser open and the connection running.

This also helps to prevent anyone able to hack your password to the hotspot from using the connection while it is running. When the hotspot is shut down, it is of course not using any data at all whether it is you unknowingly using data or someone else who has hacked your password.

answer 3
I believe you are limited to 6GB per month of data with the cheapest service card. No, you won't be able to download/stream movies and/or videos with this limitation. You first need to determine how many emails, what kind of gaming you may wish to pursue and other data-eating requirements, such a downloading photos, videos, You Tube interactions, etc.

Kathy, yes, it should. This Hotspot provides a "generic" WiFi signal (802.11b/g) just as your home router would be doing. Therefore, if your Mac or iPads can accept "normal" WiFi (almost all will), then you will be able to use this Hotspot.

You can connect 5 devices at one time which sounds good but beware if they are into streaming video or youtube or downloading files. It can eat up that data card in a matter of hours, that's why I don't like these products. Better off going to McDonalds or somewhere they have free Wifi in those same couple of hours and save yourself an empty wallet due to expensive Data cards.
