Yes, you can easily remove the paddle directly after turning out your freshly baked loaf, making sure to use oven mitts while you do so. Here are the instructions directly from the owners manual:

Cleaning the Baking Pan and Kneading Blade
1 Wipe the baking pan and kneading blade with a damp cloth
and dry completely.
2 DO NOT wash the pan or parts in the dishwasher. Surely this
will damage the finish of the pan and the other parts

The paddle is easliy removed and cleaned....I would not put it in the dishwasher and really there is no need to because it cleans easily with soap and water. I hate cleaning a million different parts and the best part about this machine you clean two things and without having to scrub..

It mixes the dough, rises the dough, cooks the dough and is easy to set up - it has two things to easily clean afterward. I was amazed at how simple it worked and I am very happy with it. It also makes jam, cake and different kinds of loaves

I have seen the pre-packaged mixes sold all over, but realize any savings would come from using the recipes, therefore I don't use the pre-packaged mix. With the Sunbeam 5891 you get quite a few recipes that are easy to follow, with excellent results!

One feature that the Sunbeam 5891 doesn't have is a fruit addition "alert." You will need a manual timer and some knowledge of when to add the fruit so it comes out right. It can be done, I read about how to in a Bread Machine Recipe book I borrowed from the Public Library.

Some of the machines that had the audible alert cost over 50% more, so I would only recommend that feature only if you will use it all the time for it to pay for itself .

According to the owner's manual:
Using the Delay Timer
You can delay the time your breadmaker starts to have fresh bread ready
when you get up in the morning or when you come from work.
We recommend that before you use the Delay Timer, you try out a few
recipes. Use recipes that have produced good results for you in the past.
❃ IMPORTANT: You cannot use the Delay Timer for ExpressBake® settings
(bread in under 1 hour). Before using the Delay Timer:
1 Add all recipe ingredients to the bread pan.
2 Select the correct setting for the kind of bread you are making
(French, Sweet, etc.).
3 Select the color.
CAUTION: Do not use recipes with ingredients that can spoil
like eggs or milk.
