The capacity is 24 ounces. As to Protein shakes, believe me, as well as it crushes the frozen items it will blend a shake perfectly. Do you use milk or water with your shake? Either way, this little gem will be perfect for you. And most of the shakes I've seen are either 8 or 16 oz. Good Luck!

No, it wouldn't. It's great at what it does--smoothies, shakes--but it's designed only for basic liquid blending; I wouldn't try to crush ice or process anything other than small pieces of fruit in it.

It comes with a lid, but the mug is large, so you'd need a really long straw so it doesn't drop in.
The blender itself is good for drinks-only, nothing heavy duty and no regular ice cubes, or it burns up.
